i'm looking for an outdoor/survival knife:

-full tang, fixed blade
-S30V, 150CM, or BG-42 steel, preferably S30V.
-around 4" to 6" blade length.
-at least .15" thick, preferably thicker.

if anyone knows of where to get a knife like this or has a custom one for sale please contact me. thank you.

If you are willing to accept D2 steel, you can go with the Rat 5 or TAK from Ontario. For an outdoor/survival knife, these really fit the bill.

I have also heard nothing but good things about the Ranger RD6, and (coming soon) RD4.

The steel on these knives is the only thing that doesn't fit your criteria, hope it's not TOO important. :D

I will second the Chris Reeve Green Beret 5.5' and if you don't want the serrations then the 6" blade on the Neil Roberts Warrior should fit the bill for you.
I prefer the 6" blade on the Neil Roberts. :D

Tops has the DART "direct action rescue team" it should meet all your needs. Check it out @topsknives.com

I sure do like my Bark River Northstar for the purposes you listed.

It's A-2 tool steel, not stainless, but it's one helluva survival/camp/trail knife. Easy to sharpen, and holds an edge quite well. :)

Bark River knives are the best kept secret in the knife world, IMHO.

Josh,
Look into the RANGER brand. Outstanding knives, and extremely reasonably priced. Most in your criteria are under $100, and you might be able to get both a 6" and a 4" (not shown on his site, but they are available).

i'll say right now i'm no knife expert. i have read A LOT about knives and steel though, everyday for hours so i'm learning fast. i'm pretty much looking for a very tough, hardcore, strong outdoor/survival knife that can stand some abuse, and will be good for chopping wood, cutting metal, you name it. i was thinking about the benchmade 151 griptilian or benchmade 220 resistor. they are both made of 154CM steel, which is supposed to be very strong. i guess S30V is the best right now, but i was having a hard time finding one that fit my requirements. many of the knives you all suggested seem great but most of them i didn't like the shape of them very much. the only thing with the griptilian knife are that they don't have a very thick blade, which means a weaker blade. i really like the resistor, because it is thicker than the griptilian, but i feel that the blade is too short at 3.4". i'm kind of lost on what knife to get so help me out ya'll?
