I'm trying to find a large opening (gate of 1.5" inches) carabiner that doesn't cost and arm & Leg. Plan to use on my pull up bar to hang some abdominal swings. I have found some professional fire / rescue carabiners with that large of a gate, but they are rated for 7,000lbs + and cost $30-50. I was hoping for something that would take 300-400lbs and cost less than $10.

Anyone know of a good source for the non-professional or climbing quality carabiners? Thanks for the help.

The Home Depot near me has carabiners that are HUGE. They're bigger than any real climbing carabiner that I've ever seen. I'm don't know how they're rated as far as weight goes.

Checked Home Depot and Lowes yesterday with no luck, but that sounds like exactly what I need.

I can't remember which section these were in at my Home Depot. They must have been 7 or 8 inches long. The metal was 3/8 or 1/2 in thick. Bright colors. The non-opening side of the carabiner had black spongy rubber on it. I think these are intended as a way to carry things. (As in, clip the nice big cushy carabiner to the wire bale on the five gallon bucket, and carry it away.) I'm thinking they were around $10 or so.

RTAK,

I went to Home Depot today to check on those big carabiners for you. They're called Hangalls. The good news is that they are only $2.95. The bad news is that they are only rated to 150 lbs.

I checked out my local today, but didn't find anything like it. 150lbs huh ...grumble grumble. Thanks for going out of your way to check. I'll keep looking.

Pick up any of the ones like Temper suggested, and then go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy some chain. Use the chain to hold the swing, and use the biner to hold the chain together. .
