Looking for long term KMG-TX reviews

Hey guys,

My apologize for another grinder thread....

I had my hopes on getting a Northridge Pro package, but they won't ship such a large, pricey item to Canada and deal with our customs. Apparently Canadian money is no good to them. KMG-TX has also been a very close second for me, and I can get one shipped here, or buy one within Canada if they remain in stock at knifemaker.ca. I understand the KMG-TX is still pretty new, but I am looking for an updated review of the grinder.

A couple questions:
  • Any tracking issues with the axis-neutral tracking?
  • Does the KMG-TX feel as "tank" like as the first KMG? I ask because the metal stock looks to be thinner than the original. I personally love how overbuilt the KMG is.
  • Is the C plate flat? Or has Beaumont not fixed this issue.
  • Any issues with things being square? Some KMG classic models suffered from tracking issues because nothing could stay square.
  • Any issues with holes not being drilled and tapped square? I know some KMG's suffered this, but it looks like this is a CNC operation for them now.

Big purchase, so lots of questions before I pull the trigger.

I am not interested in the TW-90. The single tooling arm and 1.25" arms has me turned off. I have a lot of existing tooling thats 1.5".

I'd love a detailed review of the TX, as well. I know KMG has gotten some bad press in these parts. I've had nothing but good experiences with the company and the grinder. When I'm ready to upgrade (extra tool arm, horizontal flip, etc.), the KMG will be high on my list. Current users, chime in!

For sure they have got a bad wrap around here by some. I personally don't have issues with my KMG, but I also made it direct drive out of the box. It tracks great. I did replace the C plate and turned the stock C plate into a slack belt attachment.

Regarding the company itself, it seems like they are interested in making great products again. They have released many cool items in the past couple years. KMG-TX, double stack kit for the KMG, direct drive kit for the KMG and now a surface grinder that looks really good.

I am looking forward to getting my machine, regardless of long term reviews :P.

I'd love to see a video and review of the KMG-TX.

I've never had a single problem my KMG grinder. It is built like a tank and will last forever. It did seem that Beaumont Metal Works stopped innovating and didn't care to increase production to support demand for attachments and specialty wheels about 5+ years ago. It's good to see new products by them.

My next purchase will be a surface grinder. Since I already have a KMG, they will be a strong contender for a surface grinding attachment in lieu of a standalone vertical wheel surface grinder.

OK, I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but what is a "C plate"? Is that the D plate that holds the platen? OR a plate that holds a 56C mount motor?

So I noticed in that review he mentions he bought just the chassis, anyone else buy just the chassis? I don't see it listed on their website for that configuration and I emailed awhile ago and they said they at the time they weren't selling just the chassis.

I tried purchasing the chassis only, because it would be cheaper to find the VFD and motor in Canada, but was told they sold it as one complete unit. Aside from shipping costs, I don't mind that its all configured by them though.
