About 50 years ago my grandparent gave my father a lockback knife that said Made in Brazil. It was stainless steel that had engraved on the handle all four suites from a deck of cards. The blade was maybe 3" long. He lost it in a lake and we were able to find it, but about 10 years ago it got left in a hotel room and they were unable to find it. I am trying to see if anyone can point me in the direction of a similar knife so I can replace the one he lost. any help would be appreciated. Have been looking for years on ebay for anything similar.

Hi friend. I am a brazilian bladsmith and know very well this knife brand. The name factory is MUNDIAL. Yes, the logo is four deck cards. The unique way that i know to find is search in "mercado livre" (mercadolivre.com.br) for "antiga faca mundial"

Just now i search and find several itens. But remember. Check the filter "usado" in top menu for search only in vintage itens. If you find what you need i can buy here and sell to you in ebay.
Stay loged with me.
Search "gaucho_knife" seller in ebay site and message me.

I had a Mundial bread knife that was very good, but it was so inexpensive I used it to cut fiberglass insulation. I'd forgotten about the cards trademark.

The first trade mark of mundial was a eagle. The vintages are good knives but now its made in China. Poor quality and low prices.

Is the mark of the suits of cards always Chinese?

And may I ask you two questions about these?

Does an alpaca sheath bend easily?
Can an old handle have a new blade?

The Gaucha sheath bent around my back when I fell asleep in a soft chair with it in my belt. The sheath and handle look worn, and the horse has just a trace of gold on its muzzle, but the blade looks new.
It also has string on it that could have tied the knife to the sheath or the sheath to a belt, so it looks used.

I got it too cheap to be silver, unless nobody looked past the cowgirl blade.

1- Do not. Card marks are old. Long before the Chinese branch.
2 - Yes, alpaca is relatively soft.
3 - Yes. The handle is filled with tin. The blade fits into it via a long shaft.

In the photo of the knife: it is not silver. it's alpaca

It is a little difficult to repair as they are relatively thin thick molded plates.
