Hey everyone, I have been following H.I. for quite some time and recently got my first blade from a collector.

It's a 27" Chiruwa Ang Khola that weighs in just under 5 lbs

From what I understand it was made by Kami Sher a while ago on a special request from UB for about 10-12 of these. Anyone have any additional or different info on this blade?

It is definitely by Sher. That's his kami mark and initials on the right side of the blade. It was probably made before 2005, since the more recent blades usually have the "U.B." initials on the right side.

Sher was/is known for overbuilt blades, although he was also capable of making some excellent lightweight fighters.

I hope you're a big, strong guy. A blade that big and heavy is really intended for climbing to the top of the Empire State Building and swatting at small aircraft.

Thanks David, I was thinking it was Sher... and, well I can handle it well enough for some things but it obviously isn't great for any practical use; unless you needed to chop up a car or something :P

That's one of the things I was so curious about is what it's purpose was... I guess cerimonial or just a nice display piece.

Svashtar might have something to say about this (maybe he will stop by).

From 2006:
... I have a 26.5" 72 oz. horn CAK ... [and] I have a 25" Father AK, without Chiruwa handle and it comes in at 58 oz., so he did a great job of keeping this balanced. Both my big ones are by Sher, who did do a good job on the big blades, keeping them perfectly straight and the handles lined up very well...

Wow, yeah that's the first I've seen anyone mention anything like this... sounds like almost the same blade

interesting sharing, how often are you using it! Will you carrying it for hiking or camping. 27" Chiruwa Ang Khola

price range would be! Interesting but I don't like to find the toughest knife on earth that I wouldn't handle.

Gent's, most of the Large blades came out around 2001 to 2004. I heard Uncle Bill talk about some big blades that H.I. had done in the past, so I ordered one. Turns out a few other people ordered some really big Ang Khola's at the same time. Mine came in at 25" long, 3/4" thick and weighed in at 5 pounds. He has a wood handle and was made by Durba.

The really big blades are good for cutting/chopping through thick branches, splitting firewood and giving the user quite the work out. They are not something that you'll want to hike or backpack with, but for home or base camp use, they are great! Wish that I hadn't sold it years ago.

My most used Khukri's are a 20" Surupati that weights 24 ounces and a 16.5" WWII that weights 21 ounces. I've taken them both hiking and backpacking. They don't chop as well as the big boys, but they are packable. So, if you want a Big user, the 25"+ models are great, but if you want something packable, look much smaller.

Enjoy your blade. I hope it sees some use.

Yeah if this sees use it will certainly be base camp type activities or as needed. I'm thinking of an 18" CAK and perhaps a standard WWII for my carry along blades.

Good to hear some history on it, thanks for sharing :)
