Looking for Mr. Goodsheath

I am looking for sheaths for both my 119 and 120. Yes, I have the Buck sheaths, but they are not designed for quick right-janded use.

Here's a pre-86 and current Buck 120 sheath (119 sheaths are similar) -

Neither is very well suited for my use. The snap is not positioned for ease of unsnapping one-handed (it's on the wrong side, and is wider than need be). The part of the sheath between the handle and your shirt isn't high enough. The older sheath has separate pieces of leather inserted at each side, to keep the blade from slicing through the stitching. This makes it quite thick, and stiff. The current sheath has the added leather on the edge side only; the other side is folded rather than stitched.

I also think the belt loop is too high. I like the top of the belt loop to be at the level of the guard.

Everyone has their preferences, of course. Mine seem to be different from Bucks.

I have a hunting knife and sheath left me by my father, with an excellent sheath. Unfortunately, it seems to have grown legs, or I would send it to a sheathmaker/leatherworker to clone it for the 119 & 120.

Has anyone else seen a sheath somewhat like I have described above??? Could you point me to a link???

TIA!

I prefer the sheath to hang just a bit lower so that your hand is right at the handle instead of being a bit higher near the belt.
Was thinking of that yesterday...lower hanging sheath for my 650.

I've found that the problem with that (for me) is that the sheath pulls up before the knife pulls free...you end up with the sheath doubled up and the blade jammed in the sheath...and have to use two hands to pull it free... :(

Only real way to cure that is to use a steel-plate-reinforced sheath...which makes it thicker, heavier, etc...

I'm starting to like the idea of an eighteen inch lawnmower blade neck knife... :D

Hmmm...good point on the "double up" point.
I "think" the techanicality here is Californy-yay is the "hanging freely" from the belt clause of the law...I believe it is worded like that or similar. Point is you can open yourself up for problems if the sheath is tied at the bottom to your leg like David Crockett or Jim Bowie...or is that David Bowie?
Wish Five-0 Mike was here to give his Calif LEO opinion.

Oh??? I have not heard of that law...It can't be tied down??? Is that just California??? [Why does the name "Diane Feinstein" pop into my mind???]

How about suspender knife sheaths??? The upside-down ones; you yank it out downwards...Although the last one I saw was duct-taped to the suspender belt; technically not a tie-down...???...

Whoops...I was wrong. Should've checked first...but instead of editing what I originally posted above, and thus, confusing folks that pop in here later...here is the PC 12020 paragraph that covers sheath knives:

(24)(d) Knives carried in sheaths which are worn openly suspended from
the waist of the wearer are not concealed within the meaning of this
section.

As Roseanna Danna Anna would say, "Never Mind".

I have my edc 110 in an old 10 sheath from the 70's,with the wider belt loop and it sits lower on my belt.l love it,all the newer 110 sheaths are no good to me as they sit way too high and are not comfortable for me at all.Any idea why they changed the styles of leather 110 sheaths?

have you ever considered a kydex sheath, you can put it right where you want it and it won't flop. later, ahgar

Kydex : Such as the Combat Master by Spec Ops.

I have 3 on order, one is for a Buckmaster. I hope they are as good as they look. Purchased on the 'bay for around $35. Do a Google search for other sellers and good description.

Here is one place: http://www.lapolicegear.com/spcomash.html

Ah! That does look nice! Thanks! ;)

It looks like a woven ballistic fabric; I like that. I had a mental image of a hard fiberglas scabbard like the US bayonet scabbard...which isn't all that bad either...

Post a pic when you get yours. I don't see a need for that little pouch on the front; but it might cut off fairly easily...

Thanks Bbb4u...nice peeps at LAPOLICEGEAR. HAve dealt with them before.
I think I may get the white one for formal wear.
Actually, I'm gonna order the OD one today. Hope the NightHawk 650 fits in it.
Thanks again...

My 3 Black Spec Op sheaths arrived yesterday and they are amazingly rugged. They are made in the USA and well designed. The front pouch is sewn into the side seams so I wouldn't even consider trying to remove it. The pouches can be very useful for a sharpener, flashlite, or, In my case, one of them is holding the Buckmaster spikes and a Buck sharpener. The long version (8") fits the Buckmaster 184 perfectly so I no longer have to be concerned with marking up the sides of the blade. The other two are the short version (up to 6") that I purchased for UZI Defenders that came with really crappy sheaths.. if you could even call them sheaths!

As far as posting a picture, there are many to be seen on the internet and I haven't had much time this week. I do think anyone needing a rugged sheath for any knife in this blade length would be delighted. I know I am.

Trax and BBB4U...

My Spec-Ops OD sheath came in Wednesday from LA FUZZ GEAR. Put my NightHawk 650 in it and it works well. Looks like it will last as long as the knife. Extremely well built. I will post pics when the sun comes up.

The pocket is handy...I have a 112FG in it now. For those social occassions where ya just need something to get a pickle out of a jar. One could use it to carry a Bic lighter or a small diamond sharpening stone instead.

One thing I don't care for is the top retaining loop. Where the knife handle is secured. It wraps around the bottom part of the handle, at the guard, as it sits in the sheath. The top of the handle flops a bit...but I think I can live with that.

I prefer it to the stock NightHawk sheath as I can place the knife in "backwards" which is how I like it to be when I extract.

Here's the pic of the NightHawk 650 in the Spec-Ops sheath (short) I got from the guy in the shorts that drives the brown truck yesterday.
One point I really like is the split belt loop gig. Allows you to wear the sheath with a belt loop between the two sheath loops so the sheath doesn't slip around from side to side between belt loops (did that make sense?).
Plus, it keeps your belt from slipping out the belt loops from the weight of the system when you are using the bathroom...iffn' ya know what I mean.

You can also see a pocketed 298GY in the pic.
And, "no"...I did not test the sharpness of any of my Bucks on that cat.
