Looking to buy my first Emerson! I have kinda narrowed it down to cqc-7b, cqc-7v, or socfk-b.
Here are my questions : 1. Is the v-grind easier, harder,or the same to sharpen than the standard chisel grind? 2. Compare the differences in handle feel, in the hand and in the pocket.

I eagerly await knowledge from you Emerson gurus!!

I don't have any Emersons other than the CQC-7. I do have other V ground knives, though. There's a bit of a learning curve on the chisel grind sharpening, but I'm picking it up pretty quickly. The cutting characteristics are different as well. I actually like it.

To this point I have been a Spyderco guy. I can sharpen them just fine. I was referring to the difference between the Emerson v-grind with chisel bevel vs the "standard" Emerson chisel (with 1 flat side). I was curious if the vgcb actually made any difference in difficulty to someone who is not used to chisel bevels.

The production Emerson knives all have a chisel edge, so the only difference in sharpening would be due to the blade shape. I haven't noticed any real differences between sharpening a CQC-7 (chisel grind) and a CQC-10 (v-grind). I just sharpen one side and strop the other to remove the burr.

Get a 7. Which do you prefer, chisel or V grind?

I like the 7, and I prefer the stonewash over the black. My eye is drawn to the V grind, but I think only because it is closer to what I am used to. If there's basically no difference in sharpening, I'm not sure if it is worth the price difference to get the V grind.

For a user, the chisel grind will pull when cutting.
LMK which Emerson you decide on.

I just ordered my first Emerson yesterday too went with a QcQ-7BW-SF and I cant wait.

Congrats! Now for the hardest part......waiting. It took me forever to decide what to get, now I can't wait until it arrives next week!

Every Emerson has a chisel edge and so whether chisel or V ground, you just sharpen on one side and only remove the burr from the flat side.

Yes, I know. My question was about any difference in sharpening between them due to the knives I was considering. I have chosen the SOCFK, and am looking forward to it's arrival next week ! :)

It's finally here!!! The SOCFK was waiting for me when I got home from work today!!
Kudos to EDCknives, shipping was very fast.
What a fantastic knife! For my first Emerson, I think I chose well. Love the ergonomics, and the blade is everything I hoped it would be. Nice F&F as well.
It will go into my pocket for EDC tomorrow. After we have gotten to know each other, I will post a review and pics!

Just got my first Emerson and WOW!!! First off people that do not like the Chisel grind are insane this knife is silly sharp from the box. The Fit and Finish was very good. I'm a fan looking to get many more now what a great knife and company. What stood out to me was how gripy the simple G 10 scales are.

Congrats! Which one did you get?
I agree, the g10 is excellent, and I am really liking the Chisel grind.
