Was unsure about getting one due to certain vids of lockbar failing etc...

Looking for something that is all "arounder", Camping, Medium Wood Working, Food Prep, Defense if needed etc...

3.5 is fine- also looking for longevity... I have heard the ceramic ball on the Umnu Blade may not hold up "AS LONG" as a sebbie...

Thanks for all of the advice and looking forward to finding the right one for me!

Also, couldn't really find anything on the insingo vs. strd...

hey senfinger,

I would say get a large micarta if you have the funds. Its the "work" knife chris reeve puts out. Definately a great knife. Also, dont listen to neptuneknives B.S. he has no idea what hes talking about. The lock bar on my sebenza's have never had any issues, and I USE mine everyday. Ive also never heard of a lock on a sebenza being bad from anyone but him. Seems to me he just has his panties in a bundle after Mr. Reeve confronted him about it. Enough about him, I say the large micarta is the best bet but it's your personal preference on which one you get.

Thanks for all of the replies... Have the Inlays ever had issues or coming out etc...? I know someone just recently asked about them getting wet etc...

I was wondering which model was considered the "Working knife"- (I know the spine whacking etc.. is frown upon but it also was *Very* surprising...)

Have also heard the Ergos take some getting use to pm the Umnu.

This will definitely be a different knife- I'm use to a tactical folder and flipping vs. using thumb and thin profile.

Also, how is the blade tip for breaking?

Believe me and everyone else, you want inlays. There's nothing wrong with the plain handles but the inlay models are a step up with the silver hardware and they fill the hands out nicely from the slight extra width.

Micarta is known for being indestructible and VHB tape from 3M will NEVER come loose, no matter what you put it through, unless you're gonna soak it in heavy fuels or solvents for several hours.

...They're worth the extra coin, for sure.

Neptune knives

I just came up on exactly one year of everyday carry with my large sebenza 21. I must have opened and closed that knife 100 times a day. Seriously the thing practically never left my hand! So 100 openings a day x 365 days in a year = 36,500 openings. And the knife is still perfect, solid as a rock!

The lock up went from 40% when new, to around 50-60% after breaking in and hasn't moved at all since.

I celebrated my one year of edcing the Sebenza with buying an Umnumzaan. :D

Chris Reeve is the frame lock master! He knows what he is doing! Period! End of story.

Edit to add:
Also just know, you can make ANY knife fail.

Okay, lets just say I was mad at strider for whatever reason. I could make my sng purposely fail off camera by doing whatever to it. Then spine whack it on camera to show others how easily the lock fails. Nothing surprising there...Well to me that is...My viewers on the other hand would think the sng is a weak pos.

Very deceiving indeed.

You can bet some people on youtube are not above that.

Thanks guys! Yeah- it's funny the more and more I look at CRK it draws me in- So what have people found better blade wise for EDC? The Regular vs. 21 vs. Insingo?

I do like the less of a thumb hole and the ridges, blade better for all around? I do know the 21 has a lot more options other than computer graphics or annuals.

So blade type / reg vs. 21? /Insingo?

Thanks Toyz!!! *Again...*

Read through- gives a good description of type but not better for use? Slicing, Piercing Etc... (Just states Hunting/Skinning etc..)

Probably the better blade for all around use would be the regular 21. I carry an insingo because I like the blade shape but I can see that the classic/21 blade shape is more useful. It comes down to personal prefference.

Purchased a new Large 21 Plain Handle on Friday can't wait! Could have bought inlay but decided against it for my various reasons... Nothing beats solid Ti = ) We'll keep it at that! Can't wait to get it!

I first would say I would not worry about the lock bar failing, these guys on youtube fix the knife so the bar will fail. even fixed blades will fail if not treated the way it was attended. I have owned many sebenzas over the years and never failed me using as hard as I do. I would get a plain one because if you get anything more, you will not want to use it. remember no matter what one you decide, unlike other knives you can refurbish and make it look new again. when you do get one only use the Chris reeve grease, this will extend the life of your knife, and dont flick the knife it was not made for it. I hope this helpsChriss
