I am thinking about getting an emerson, and I don't know witch one to get. I don't care for chisel ground, and I'm not looking to spend a ton. Any ideas? I like the horseman, but I want something NOT chisel ground. I really don't know much about their product line, so any info would be great. I am not set on a size, but I usualy carry a para 2, or similar size. I am open to smaller or larger. And pics would be awesome to help me visualize :)

I would say go to the site: http://www.emersonknives.com/ekTheKnives_Tact.php check out all the non chisel ground knives and see which one suites your needs then search the depths of the internet to find it at a less expensive price.

To help clarify (if you're wondering) what's meant by the different grinds please watch Mr. Emerson explain it himself go to 4:40 (or watch the whole thing, it's long but, imo it's a great video)

I own the cqc-15 and love it, great ergonomic handle, and I just love the blade shape with the tanto tip

I really like the look of the 15, a bit more than I wanted to spend but I will keep looking :)

Thanks for the info

Yeah I see that now. Not sure how I feel about that, and to be honest it's making me lean away from it(but I'm not sure why, probably just my own perception or something silly in my head)

After sharpening dozens of knives last month with a Lansky, I've come to LOVE a chisel edge. You only have to sharpen one side of the blade and simply strop the other side to break off the burr. It's extremely easy and it's very sharp. My CQC-10 (V-Grind) and Traveler (V-Grind) were a joy to sharpen.

I think the sharpening part isn't what's bothering me, but I'm not exactly sure what is. I wish there was a better place near me to handle one before I buy.

Alot of people get hung up on the fact that Emersons are chisel ground. They say that they are hard to sharpen, and might tend to push to one side when cutting through something. I have never had any problem with any of my Emersons cutting through anything; and honestly, how hard is it to sharpen just one sige of a blade? Emersons are hard use knives. They arent made for food prep, or as a letter opener; they are made to work. I think that once you get one in your hands you will love it, if not you would have no problem putting it on the exchange and selling it for 90-95% of what you paid for it.

I have always been a fan of the A 100, i believe they are V ground, and they are cheaper than a cqc 8 or a commander. No wave feature, just simple, functional design.. I don't own one, and deeply regret not buying one when they were available for 100-120 bucks.. Well, about the chisel grind, I see where you are coming from.. but to me, emerson is a tactical maker, and that grind fits that function. the a 100 is closer to a gents folder in my opinion.. I would check out the ernest emerson interview with nutnfancy on youtube, he (Emerson) talks about his chisel grinds... the gentleman jim is another nice blade that I think is v ground.. could be wrong.. but has the wave.. enjoy your emerson.. you have my best wishes.. and my envy.. - hayes

I think you should give the chisel grind a chance, but then again, it's your first one...
I think it's good and like it.

I own many knives including only one emerson. Something about it i just dont like it! They kinda of feel like they should be in the same price point as SOG. Just my opinion.

Which model did you like? There are many models out there and if you find the right one I think it will work for you. These are not knives to sit there and admire because they are pretty, these knives are made to be used.

But then they are pretty. I have close to 20 of them now. My user is a cqc7a. I say go for a 7V as your first Emerson.

I will be getting an emerson eventually, but right now looks like my budget is over extended. That will give me more time to do my research and figure out exactly what model fits my needs best. Until then, does anyone have any comparison pics with say a para2 or an endura?

Old school full size commander, Para 2. The commander is by far my favorite emerson model, i would take a look into it if i were you.
