Got some gift cards for one of the big box hunting and fishing stores and thought I'd pick up a multi-tool to keep in the console of my truck. The brands available are Gerber, Leatherman and SOG. Since I'm not planning on carrying it on a regular basis I'm thinking I could go with more features since weight won't be an issue. If you all would be so kind as to give me sone suggestions within those three brands with respect to useable features, quality, etc. I would appreciate it greatly. TIA

I like both the surge and wave

Thanks for the reply. Out of the three brands I listed Leatherman was the one I was leaning towards most. Right now I'm looking online at the 300, the Wave the Rebar as well as the Charge

I own and use the wave. I cannot imagine there being a better multi tool available. pretty rugged and does all I need it to do.

I dont think you are going to go wrong on any of those you mentioned. As far as multi-tools go you really have a "get what you pay for" type of situation.

One other thing if you do intend to cut wires like I do, get a tool with the unscrewable and replacable wire cuter.

From what I've been reading on their site the Leatherman Wave and Rebar are considered "full size" where as the Super Tool 300 and the Surge are "heavy duty". Is there really much difference between those two classes, FS v HD?

Decided to go with the Super Tool 300. Seems very well made and should be quite useful.

Good choice. I had a 300 and sold it to buy a Charge TTi since it had an optional pocket carry clip. I like the Charge a lot but I miss the 300 sometimes.

The 300 is a great tool that will serve you well. It'll take awhile to break in, mine was quite stiff when new, but I'm able to open it one handed easily now.

The bigger 300 is a good choice since it'll be riding in your vehicle and you might as well have a heavy duty tool if you have any vehicle repairs to make.
