Looking for my first spyderco for work

Hey brain hive of BF, I've been lurking on here admiring all the ridiculously awesome blades you guys have that I can't quite justify owning yet.

So what I'm looking for Is a new edc/work knife and I'm considering spyderco since they seem to be great slicers for the price and I don't have one in my small collection yet.

I work for a garden center and florist so I'm pretty much always cutting something... processing flowers, cutting twine, breaking boxes etc. I'd like something that I can get and keep razor sharp fairly easy. Doesn't have to be discrete but I'd like to keep it in my pocket all day without it being to bulky fwiw I'm 6'3" 220lb. Budget of say 200 but the cheaper the better. Also if anyone has a beat up one they want to sell me cheap so I can try out what spyderco has yo offer before I shell out a few hundred for something I might not like that would be awesome.

Thanks guys
Patrick

P.s. for anyone wary of dealing with me please look my name up on njgunforums.com, same username just spelt backwards

I recommend the Spyderco Manix in any of it's flavors.

Right now the new S110V LW Manix 2 is probably one of the hands down best values right now if you can find one. A bit of a bear to sharpen but for will keep an edge for a long time.

I need to clean up and give a few hundred flowers a day a fresh cut. Will the spyderedge take away from the clean cut that I need?

Hmmm...Honestly I don't know, I figure the serration would come in handy if the stems are woody. Salts do come PE as well, and the H1 steel is more or less rust proof.

Is rust isn't an issue the I stand by the S110V LW Manix suggestion it's an amazingly wear resistant steel at an amazing price (just over $100). Maybe a Gayle Baradly in M4 if you don't mind a non-stainless steel. It's a bear of a blade in a nice CF tuxedo.

For a work knife I'd suggest a Tenacious or a Delica. If you want a Golden made knife I'd second the Manix 2 in any of the many options.

You can probably find a Superblue Stretch at the moment for around $110, and that will take a razor sharp edge and you'll be able to sharpen it easily. Superblue is not stain resistant, but with some care it won't develop a pitting rust but rather a patina. The Stretch is not my favorite form factor but it's a great size for the weight and the length won't limit you. I personally favor the Delica, but it may be a bit short for you at 3". The Delica can also be found in Superblue.

Although it's So Hot Right Now, I don't think the S110V LW Manix meets your requirements, as it will be a bit harder to sharpen and you didn't state extreme wear resistance as a desire. For "razor sharp easily" I say Superblue.

Military. Easy to clean, light, large and has very nice grind. Only thing it isn't good at is being lefty friendly and discrete ;)

my Paramilitary 2 s30v is awesome i cut loads of cardboard every day, strip wire and the edge is still there just a quick visit to the strop and she is popping hairs again. i love the Paramilitary 2 the handle size would be perfect for u i believe.
Delica would be a good option but the handle might be a little small and the vg10 is a good steel but not as good as s30v or the S110v stated above.
look at a paramilitary 2.. its one knife i will never sell or not have one. one of the best ever in my opinion.

Rust isn't an issue for me

Than go with Manix2 LW standard with BD1 steel. Should be able to find around $70. S110V variant is great, but can be hustle to sharpen, if you do not have diamonds.
Endura VG10 FFG will be great. No doubts for Military, but it is double cost. Manix2 LW will be great first Spyderco.

I'd say an endura would be great for you. Good size and you have the choice of ffg or saber and vg-10 for easy of sharpening or zdp for edge retention.
I have a fully serrated one and the thing is a work horse.

I would recommend a full flat ground Delica 4 to start with. It's lightweight, got a 3" blade made of great quality VG-10 and has a great shape for slicing. You can get one for about $65 or so.

I agree, I think the Delica is the perfect first Spyderco.
