Hey guys!

I received my blue GEC #72 Lockback, but she is such a looker and I think I'll make her a safe queen :D
I've set my eye on Queen Cutlery as they have those beautiful amber carved stag bone handles and D2 steel, for which I happen to have a soft spot :)
Right now I'm trying to decide between these two models:

Cattle King stockman pattern, 4 1/4" closed:

Premium Trapper, 4 1/8" closed:

To provide more information: this will be my EDC, I work in constructions (I'm a site manager and spend quite a lot of time outside) and I do a lot of work around the house on week-ends.
I would much appreciate your input.
Thanks a lot!

I don't have the Trapper but I do have the Cattle King and a few other large Queen stockman's.
The Cattle King is a nice, large, robust, well made knife that I am certain would serve you well as a edc. I also like the D-2 blades.

Good luck with the search:)
Steven

Thanks Steven!
Any blade play on yours? I read several post on different forums that Queen knives come with a slight blade play.

Use your GEC, do not mistreat your knives by not using them :D Using your knife shows your love for them :D Back to business. Check Queen small Dan Burke Barlow. I am so impressed of mine though its saw cut bone. My Queen doesn't show sign of blade play, though slipjoints may develope bit in time. If you like bigger knives, Queens full sized Barlow's might fit the bill. Schatt&Morgan which has major players from Queen Cutlery has some very nice big daddy barlow.

Sounds to me like you need a stockman. That sheeps foot blade will see a lot of use - moreso than the spey on the trapper.

I really like the looks of that stockman, but I don't think you could go wrong with either! Maybe flip a coin? Good luck with a tough choice haha.

That means: Buy both! :D

I knew you guys were trying to make me go bankrupt! :D
Seriously, I think I'll go with the stockman. I'm new to slipjoints and I had a little (very little :D) doubt about that pattern.
I only have one more question: how do you guys sharpen such short and narrow blades like the sheepsfoot or the spey blade?
I use Lansky DMT kit to sharpen D2, but I doubt it'll work in this case.
Maybe for the clip blade.

Thanks EVERYBODY!

You shoudn't have too much trouble sharpening your blades on the Lansky; it works on mine.

The Cattle King is the ticket!!!

Yeah - but I epoxied two thin pieces of leather in my clamp so the blades are firmly secured in there, with no wiggle.

It's not a Queen Cattle King, but a large Stockman nonetheless (Large Case CV)

I already did the part with the leather.
Now I just have to buy a vice. :D

Thanks a lot, you've been really helpful.

I don't have mine to hand just now but I don't recall any blade play.
I can recommend an excellent "traditional" dealer who ships Internationally and I am sure he would be happy to check the knife for you before shipping.
Feel free to PM me for details.......

Good choice on the Stockman Mike. I think you'll find the sheepsfoot blade helpful. I like trappers, but the long spey is best used on meat and animals.Don't worry about blade play. If it's excessive, send it back, if it's slight, it's ok. Just my opinion.

Good choice on the stockman. That is a beast of a knife. Seriously. As long as a trapper but with more meat. I think you'll be suprised how big it really is. I was when I got my 75 Case Stockman. Just a tank of a knife. And please oh please use that GEC. It is begging for it. It wants it. You can't really deny it if it begs you right?

OK guys, I'll use it. As a matter of fact I was planning on makin' her a safe queen only after I received the stockman. Right now she's in my front pocket tucked in the nice slip pouch I also got. :D
Dayum, I love hangin' out in this subforum!

AFTER I find a GEC #72 in Burnt Stag (that thing was beautiful), the Queen Trapper is on my list. Amber bone, D2, made it USA....what's not to love?

If you like the Queen Amber Bone (not many don't!) then you'd best order another one quick as I believe the Zebra wood scales have replaced it.

Amber Bone is some very attractive and grippy stuff due to the gnarled jigging, another knife I strongly recommend from this series is the Teardrop Liner Lock. The Muskrat I have in it is one of the best finished production knives I own, but, Queen like all others can be patchy on F&F
