This might sound farmiliar, but...

I recently bought a Mini-Griptillian. Very nice blade. However, I'm looking to get something a little higher on the spectrum. I have picked out 3 of my faves, and want you guys to give me your opinion.

BM 710 - Seems like an excellent all-purpose knife. However, it also seems a little big - 4in blade? Also, the early runs seem to have had numerous AXIS spring failures, is this still true of the ones avaliable today?

BM 730/735 - sturdy, I like the handle. But is it comfy in the hand? Also, it seems a little oversized with relation to the blade...does it feel that way, ever?

BM 943 - I like this knife the most, however, two things bother me. First, although the handle looks 'grippy', it also seems like it might be a bit slippery. Also, the blade is a bit thin, which may lead to durability problems. Are my fears founded?

I will be using this knife as my primary EDC. Light cutting of paper, tape, maybe some plastics and string, but no rope or anything. Also, I tend to treat my knives rather well (oil them regularly, never use as a prybar or anything), so durability isn't that much of a concern. I am an urbanite, which means I don't need my knife for field work much.

I am always open to suggestions. Thanks in advance!

check out the regular size Griptilian, or BM 806D2. I have it, and can't think of anything better in the price range. if you search for BM 710 or 806, there are plenty of info on BF.

Good luck,

Al Mar should use glockman99 as their SERE2000 spokesman...maybe have a cardboard cutout of you in knife stores...

Persuaded me to get the Al Mar SERE2000...just need to hold back on the purchase till my other knives arrive first and then i'll place the order for the black coated SERE2000...

I have been using a 943 for about 6 months now as my primary EDC and this knife is awesome. Its got a good feel in your hand and it is a great cutter. As far as the handle being slippery, I have had no problems, it is not quite as grippy as G-10 but the aluminum gives you a nice secure feel, IMO.

YES!...And in the meantime, maybe they can send me a couple "freebees"...(Such as a black SERE 2000, and a Bowie.).:D.

BTW...It looks like I'm finally getting an Al Mar SERE Operator to go along with my pair of SERE 2000 folders...Life IS good!.:).

Personally I really like the 730 (green handles only)
It fits into my hand better than the 710 and I don't really have big hands. As far the blade/handle ratio goes, it might just be the way the pictures are, I don't think the handle is all that big.

for your purposes, I think the 943 is the most elegant and least sheeple-scaring option. The others are nice but bigger & burlier than you need. The 943 won't slip out of your hands cutting paper & tape! But if you want a dedicated SD knife then you might want to re-think your options more towards something grippier like an 806D2.
