Here I found some L6 and this :

DIN:1.2767
C:0.45 Cr:1.30 Mo:0.20 V:0 Ni: 4.00 (X 45 NiCrMo 4)

but L6 is not sold in sheet form.

Which should I buy? The L6 bars will pose some problems I think and I want to go for some sheet.

I couldnt find any pure nickel sheets or 15N20. I bought 11 kg (aprox. 25 pounds) of 1075 sheets (1mm thick) to start with. I have no power forging tools so i plan to start trying these 1075 sheets and some DIN:1.2767 sheets (if available)...

Thanks, Emre

The carbon content is kind of low, but it should weld with 1075 as long as the increased amount of chromium does not form any oxides.

I would try it if I were you. Your 1075 and DIN will result in 60 points of carbon in the resulting billet as long as the high amount of nickel in the DIN does not aloow for carbon migration between the two types of steel. The resulting damascus should be able to be hardened also.

Can you get 1095 in sheet form? If you can, I would buy that and use it with your DIN. You get some extra carbon that way and plus it sticks to just about anything. ;) But the 1075 should weld nice too.

Hope that helps and that some of the more knowledgible guys give their $0.02 also.

Thanks 7mm,

I also wonder if the hand-held hack saw (I have them huge amounts) blades are of any use for making damascus.
