Looking for opinions on restoring an axe

I cleaned up and rehung this axe years ago, but looking at it i can't decide if I should grind out the chip. On one hand its a stress riser, on the other it would be steel lost on the bit. Opinions?

Doesn't look very deep. I don't think it'll matter much either way?

I wouldn't grind it out, maybe sharpen the axe with a smooth file and see how that turns out.

I don’t tend to grind out small chips on choppers (axes or knives) as they don’t affect performance much at all and I expect to acquire more through use. The old chips just get smaller and disappear through repeated sharpening. Nice axe!

I sharpen chips and dings out because I love a pristine edge, but you could take it or leave it.
Looks like a good axe! good find!

Also it doesn’t look like you’ve sharpened it up yet - when you do that chip will probably be difficult to see (although you’ll probably still be able to feel it with a fingernail).

I'd file it out. Helps bring the bit back to the heel and toe at the same time. It'll mean thinning the cheeks a good bit.
