Looking For Opinions

No personal experience but they have good reviews. For under $400 new and 12+1 compact, I don't see how its a bad gamble. The Sheild has been around long enough to build a stellar rep for a single stack. So many great choices out there and this seems like one of them.

My future son in law has the PC Shield, so I have some experience with those, but was wondering how the Compact compares to something like the Glock 19. I have a Glock 17 and 43, and am considering something different.

I have one and love it. If you'd like to try it out, we can get together at a range and you can abuse it all you'd like.

For me, being a lefty and 6'2"/200lbs, the 3/8" width wasn't enough to sway me toward the Shield. When the shield came out, all of them had a right handed safety. It was also missing the lefty-friendly slide release on the passenger side that the 9c has.

With the short magazine, the grip is actually a bit shorter than the Shield. Wider, but shorter. The wider grip puts a little more in the web of your hand which makes it feel a little less snappy than a single stack.

In comparison to the Glock 19, comfort and how well it naturally pointed were very similar. The G19 being slightly larger. Between the two the most noticeable difference was how much more comfortable the S&W trigger safety was compared to the Glock over an extended range session. Maybe I've got girly hands but after a hundred rounds or so, the Glock safety starts to feel a little coarse compared to the S&W that uses a trigger that is split horizontally and feels like a single piece one pressure is applied.

With the current mail in rebate, the Shield price is almost half what it was when introduced ~five years ago.

All of that said, I have no regrets going with the M&P9c BUT... If I were in your shoes, I'd go with the Glock 19. You know the design. You have magazines that will work in the 19. You're familiar with the take-down and maintenance and the 19 probably has better resale than the 9c if you ever decide to part with it.

You're still welcome to try mine ;).

Some good points above. The Glock 19 and the M&P 9C are both good guns and it all depends on what YOU prefer and like. Of the two, I prefer the M&PC, but that's just me. I think the best advise is to handle and shoot both if possible. What one person likes, another person hates. The good news is, we have lots of choices. The bad news is, we have lots of choices...

I also have the Glock 19 so I'll share what I like/dislike about each.

Like any hi-cap pistol, the Glock 19 and the M&P 9C are fairly wide and can be harder to conceal if that's your thing. This is where the shield and G-43 shines.

About the only thing I dislike about the M&P 9C is the grip length and trigger weight. I prefer a grip that extends to the bottom of my hand and doesn't leave my pinky finger hanging in the breeze. I also dislike magazine extensions that don't hold extra rounds, but again, that's just me. You can use full size M&P mags with a magazine adapter, but in my opinion, it's too long for a compact pistol. I also prefer the grip angle of the 9C vs the G-19.

For me, the Glock 19 grip length is the perfect balance of capacity and concealability. The trigger weight is also a little heavier than I like, but is workable, just like the 9C. I must have girly hands also because glock triggers get very uncomfortable for me in short order. This is my biggest gripe with the glock platform.

I wish S&W would make an M&P with a G-19 length grip, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. In fact, I cut about 1/2" off a full size mag and modified a grip adapter to give me a G-19 grip length.

I hope this helps and you really can't go wrong with either choice. Good luck.

I have the full size and I love it. But keep in mind the m&p 2.0 just got released earlier this year. I'm sure the price of the regular compact would drop once it comes out in version 2.0. Maybe the seller is expecting it to be released soon. Or wait for the 2.0 the trigger reset is better as well as a crisper trigger. You can buy aftermarket trigger kits made by apex to achieve trigger perfection to your standards as they produce several different kits for the m&p series. great guns.

Rupestris can bring his 9c, I will bring my shield and Glock 19, and John you can bring an open mind. My glock has the Zev trigger.

Went this morning and rented a Glock 19 and M&P 9 Compact. The Glock was so similar to my 17 (especially since my 17 has the grip cut down to 19 specs), that I decided on the M&P. Hopefully sales will start to pick up soon and I will be able to get it in a few months.

Ive been bitten by the gun bug again. Im saving up for a M&P 9 Compact as well.

Im debating hard on whether to get the ported model with high viz sights and an improved trigger. Its only like $50 more for all the extra goodies.

I have the full sized M&P in both 9 & .40 as well as the .40C. I got the C to as a backup to the full sized version for duty carry.

The main factor for me was the ability to use the full sized mags in the C version.

Shooting the compact took some getting used to and the dangling pinky with the smaller mags was a bit awkward at first. As I've spent more time on the range with it I've become much more comfortable and proficient with the compact and do like it. Also, of the 3 M&Ps I own, the compact has experienced a few issues with misdeeds and getting the small mags to seat properly. Mine seems to prefer the full sized mags.

The wider body is a bit harder to conceal than the single stack Shield. I've carried it in both an IWB (Alien Gear) and paddle style OWB kydex.

I think this pretty much echoed the other comments but thought I'd throw my $.02 in.

Ha...that would be "misfeeds" not "misdeeds"...the compact had been on its best behavior for the most part!

Thanks for the input! As it stands right now I probably won't be buying anything, I can't justify spending the money when it looks like I will be out of work sometime in late July.

Well, i 'pulled the trigger' and ordered a S&W Shield in 9mm over the weekend. I opted for the nicer Performance Center version with the high viz sights, worked trigger and the ported barrel.

Im still on the fence whether the porting helps or hurts on such a short barrel. We will see!

But, for the price, i couldnt pass it up. With Trump being Pres. and it being Memorial Day weekend plus a $75 rebate. I got a $500+ gun for $350.

Not a bad price for all the added features that it comes with.
