Guys, I love the look of this model by Spyderco, but does anyone know of other manufacturers that make a similar style with perhaps better materials? I am keen on this one knowing Spyderco's quality, but beeing a nerd, I want to see them all (if there are any) before making a decision.

The only models of that nature with better materials that I have ever seen were the Spyderco Dyads. The blades both lock on the Dyad, and being long discontinued they are not easy to find.

Others similar to the Byrd Wings have been put out by Smith and Wesson (their Cuttin' Horse), Schrade (the new "Schrade" made in China) and Gerber, but again all have locking blades, and I would debate the materials being better than the Wings on all of them.

I'm not a big fan of the G-10 handle scales (I would love it if Spyderco produced a series of Wings with different scales a la the much more expensive Kopa or Micro Dyad lines, or any number of traditional slipjoint makers like Case...), but the Wings Slipit's going to be hard to beat material-wise without a significant price jump.

I found that I'm carrying mine a lot more than I thought I would when I got it. Spyderco's byrd line is turning into one of those brands that gives a lot of bang for very little buck.

If you have the skill or know somebody who does, you might look into getting a Muskrat from Case and grinding serrations into one of the blades...

Thanks guys, I appreciate that for the price the Spyderco is fantastic value, and to be perfectly honest the steel on this will more than likely be fine, but you know how we are! :)

Def on the wish list, might treat myself.

Thanks again for the comments.
