I was just wondering if anybody knew of any old slipjoints that were manufactured in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) - a few months ago I saw one on ebay but didn't think anything of it, but now I am really interested in having a knife that was manufactured here where I was born - so much of the cityscape is abandoned factories and warehouses, I would love to bring a piece that was born here back to the city after possibly so many years - just womdering if anybody knew any names i could search for or anyone who has an vintage jackknife (sub 4") manufactured in philadelphia that they are willing to part with it wouldbe greatly appreciated -

Thanks kindly,

ISK

Herder (L. Herder and Sons) was located on Sansom St.

I can't think of any off the top of my head that were actually manufactured in Philadelphia, maybe someone will chime in with a brand.

Eagle was based in Philadelphia (tang stamp Eagle Phila) 1875-1943, but they were primarily sellers of seconds from other brands. I have one from them, and you can just barely make out part of the original New York Knife Co stamp that has been mostly removed, with Eagle Phila stamped over it.

Jason...was Herder an importer?..I dont mean this to be a sarcastic question...I really am not sure..so I may as well ask?

Well, I can't tell you with any certainty which "old" knives were made in PA, but Great Eastern Cutlery is being currently manufactured in Titusville PA. ;)

In Levine's guide 4th edition, there are several firms which had Philly locations. Some contractors, some manufacturers.
It would be a nice collection, to have one of each!
