Hello,
I just got a SAR 5 and I've been thinking of modifying the handles on it. I love the knife, but the handles are a bit thick to grasp. Could you post some pics of your SAR-5 if you've done something to address the thick handle issue. I'm also considering stripping it, so if you have some advice or pics in that area, I'm all ears and eyes.

One of my favorites... It just needs a little 'tweeking'. ;)

Here are a couple of picture of the one I did for Tony G.

I'm still tempted weekly to thin the handles on mine. Sadly, I love that brownish tinge to the orange/black scales and how the pattern brings it out. I guess if I ever want to use it I'm gonna have to just bite the bullet and sand em down. It's the only thing stopping me from using it.

Here's one I got in a trade with a stripped blade, looks like it was sand blasted. The handle is still the stock sage handle.

Really nice drift draft, didn't realize it till I looked at it again, but the handle covers the talon hole....cool.

Thanks for all the replies. I have a question: What happens to the coating under the handle when you put the stripper on the knife? it seems like some paint stripper would get between the scales and the tang and turn the coating to goo. does this not happen?

A little stripper goo under the handle is not such a bad thing!

i left the coating underneat the slabs on mine. I just painted a line around the outside of the handles leaving a bit of space between the stripper and the slabs I was going to put on, then sanded the transition area.

Here is one I did sometime back. Right before Blade08 if I remember correctly.
