Looking for something to add to my car carry kit, looking for a high quality pry-bar tool.
Input appreciated.

I know Boker makes some knives that are also pry bars. Literally.
Other than that, check out the Leatherman Brewzer, or Countycomm widgy bars.

I'm a bit confused...if it's staying in your car, why not just get an actual pry bar?

Craftsman flex-head pry bars, the smallest is around 12" up to 36", the head rotates 180* and has a very solid lock, great for leverage.

Other option is to go all out and get a 58" dominator. Thing weight about 12#.

I have the Ka-Bar TDI Law Enforcement Master Key in the trunk of my car. 13 inches overall and 0.25 inches thick. About $60.

Just a heads up:

Length is the single most important factor to consider. 13 inches just doesn't do it for me. 24 to 36 inches sounds about right for a generalist tool. You'll be able to remove nails from most kinds of wood or break up wooden scaffolding. For moving heavy objects you'll want longer levers as well. I have a 5 foot long prybar in my car.

Take a look at countycomm.com. I have their EOD Robotics pry bar on my kit for work. I've used it several times to pry interior doors open and break padlocks off of sheds. It's very strong and cheap.

I would really recommend a real pry bar, not just a flat piece of steel for yor needs. Those "EOD bars" and other EDC style pry bars are great to carry around so your not prying with your knives but for trunk carry do yourself a favor and get a real pry bar. You'll be hard pressed to pop a door or good open wih even these largest of those flat EDC bars, a real ~24" pry bar will do the job without breaking a sweat.

Interesting. I just went to PryBarForums and everybody was complaining and saying that Kabar was nothing but a "dulled knife."

:D

I don't need a heavy-duty prybar. As a matter of fact, the other prybar I have is an even smaller (6" overall) Boker Plus Cop Tool for $35 and includes a leather sheath with clip! To each their own...

Nothing wrong with a regular pry bar at all, however, it is exceedingly difficult to pry open a car door and or car trunk with a regular type (24 inch-ish) pry bar. That type of pry bar would make quick work of most exterior doors, non-commercial type and interior doors of the same type.

Good feedback gentlemen, appreciate it. Yes I actually am looking for a prybar not a version of dulled knife. So, having a genuine prybar reside in my car kit, is OK.
Thanks again everyone.

24" Prybar is what I would get. I like some of the new designs over the old traditionals. I keep an assortment of prybars in my work vehicle from 6" to 36". The 24" is what I use the most on real jobs.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and pick out what appeals to you. I honestly don't understand what you are looking for. It might even be a knife.

I'll third the real prybar idea. Go to a hardware store, buy an Estwing, pass it on to your children when you get to old to drive. Easy peasy.

I keep a 24" goose neck hexagonal crowbar in the trunk. Hard to complain about the price or effectiveness to it.

Another one of possible interest depending on what you might want to pry with it are sold by places like Northern Tools and probably the home centers. They are shaped like a long flat head screw driver and are very strong. I used one a few weeks ago to pry off a door to a crawl space that I didn't have the proper tools to get in without.
