Hello, im looking for a new EDC, im looking for a smaller one, around a two and a half inch blade. I would prefer for it to be as low priced as possible. Thanks.

I haven't been here long but if you're looking for a single blade I like my barehead GEC boys knife clip point in nifebrite. Collector knives has it for around fifty bucks w free ship.

Have a look at Opinel. They're very inexpensive, look nice, feel nice in hand and after a bit of sharpening are some of the best slicers available in any price range.

Why not consider a pen knife? Their blades are a lot smaller then you asked for, but they make excellent EDC's I recommend combing the 'bay for a vintage one, or getting one of Case's.

I've been picking up Schrade 12OTs off of the bay for $10 or so. They're a little used, but they're the old made in USA ones which is cool. I was able to score a new in box one for $12 the other day. Their blade is right around 2 1/2" give or take.

What's your budget? 20 bucks....50 bucks? If we knew, it would be easier to recommend one.

Berd,
All great suggestions so far.
Sometimes half the the fun of ownership is looking around.
With the availability on the web, You only have ten million choices.
My thought would be a something from Case or G.E.C.
Buy what You like and then show us the photos.

I would take a serious look at the Spyderco Cat (around $40) or the silver Kershaw Leek, which has better steel (around $36). You would be happy with either of these. I take off the pocket clips and drop them in my pocket, but you have a choice, there.

A knife that I do not own, but seems to make people happy is the Buck Mini Spitfire ($30).

Oh, well I might not be %100 correct, all of the Bucks I have had been made in the U.S.A, but with the way things are now it would not surprise me if they have some work done over there.

I recall, not long ago, when many of the cheap Bucks were made in China. Has something changed recently???

Buck is gradually moving away from China and returning home with its inexpensive knives. Most are made in the USA. They have some new knives made with 420J (not 420HC) that are made in China, but most are now made in the good ol' USA.

That is good to hear - it would be great to see all of them made in the USA someday. I have a real nice modern hunter-folder, made by Buck USA.

Get yourself a couple of Rough Rider knives. You can get two or three of them for $25.00 to $35.00 total and they have a nice fit and finish with good steel. Pick out different patterns to experiment with.

As a previous poster suggested, do have a look at Opinel if you want a single bladed pocket knife.
These knives are cheap , light and durable, they are amongst the best knives available.
I suggest a Number 6 as I think it will meet your needs well.

Cheers.

How long are the blades on the Northwoods Indian River Jack and the Fremont Jack? I was under the impression they were around 2.5 inches.
Not cheap but very nice looking knives from the photos.

If you don't already know which knife pattern you want then this is good advice. I'd also roughly suggest a knife that is 3 3/8" closed or less as these would most likely have a main blade 2 1/2" or less. I didn't say 3 1/2" closed because I have a few with blades over 2 1/2".

Rough Rider Canoe I have has a 2 1/2in main blade. Several other traditionals have a smaller blade as well, look at Rough Riders if you're not certain as to what you like as they are well made and make great users. Don't underestimate 440a with a good heat treat (like they do), around the forum 440a gets a bad rep from people who do bad heat treats. Opinel is an easy recommendation. So are swiss army knives, Victorinox 84mm sized knives have a main blade of 2.5in.

My favorite inexpensive, small EDC is from Rough Rider, their Eureka stockman. It's 3.38" long closed (85 mm), and the longest blade is 2.40". They come in four different cover choices, from top down: #407 brown stagbone, #406 dark red jigged bone, #890 yellow composition, #372 light brown jigged bone.

The #406 dark red jigged bone is a real eye catcher Jeff. In the light you photographed it, it seems to have a purpleish hue to it - at least to my eye.
