Hello all, new guy here. I'm looking for recommendations for a folding, edc, that won't break the bank as times are tough. I work in a marine environment on a daily basis, I'm reaching for my knife no less than five times a day. I cut everything from rope to cardboard, strip cable, trim wood, sharpen pencils make gaskets and remove splinters and perform other minor surgery as needed. As you can imagine, this is a very demanding and unforgiving environment. In fact, it's not unrealistic to state that situations could arise where my life could depend on a good blade. I have, for many years struggled with various brands, mostly conventional old school brand trappers. I figure there are a lot of new brands that I am frankly unfamiliar with and you folks seem pretty knowledgeable on such matters. I need a blade that will stay with me over the course of a long day. I'd like to have a 3 1/2"-4" blade length and something with a pretty sharp point for splinter extraction and such. Corrosion proof/resistant is very important in a salt water environment as well as a well textured scale for good grip (don't want to drop her overboard) (which is another good reason for not spending a fortune). I guess the $50-80.00 range is where I'd like to wind up. I welcome and appreciate your input and ideas.

Sounds like the Spyderco Pacific Salt is perfect for you. It's around your price range, it has H1 steel which has very high corrosion resistance, and it's made for the water. It has about a 3.6" blade and a nice pointy tip. Spyderco is a very good brand, they make some of the highest end production knives out there.

I personally have this knife, but mine is the fully serrated model which you don't want if you are going to be doing fine work with it.

I think the perfect thing for you would be the spyderco salt series! There made of H1 steel which will not rust and has very grippy FRN (fiber glass reinforced nylon) and has neon yellow handles so it would be easy to find if droped. And it also fits into your price range.

And one last thing: you have to hold a spyderco to understand how comfortable they are and the hole in the blade makes it very easy to open with wet hands!

Welcome to blade forums!

Yep, Pacific Salt is calling your name. It covers all of your wants and needs.

Plus, you can't go wrong with a Spydie.

Yeah. Spyderco Pacific Salt. Without question. If you could ask any company to make the perfect knife for you, the Spyderco Pacific Salt is what they'd come up with for you, and you're in luck that this knife already exists, and right within your price range. I've carried a Salt of some variety for several years. They're fantastic knives. I use them mainly for work, opening boxes and bags of food. Greasy, acidic, gunky food. My Tasman Salt plain edge is nasty. Blade is usually covered in crud. Handles are filled with crud. Crud doesn't bother a Salt. The Pacific Salt is the perfect knife for you.

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate the recommendation and decision seems unanimous. Guess ill see if I can locate one!
