Hi folks.
I'm hoping to pick your brains out there.im looking for a folder the same size as the sog fatcat. I appreciate the size of the fatcat as I am a big guy. My hands have a hard time holding my Kershaw blackout so my wife got me the cat and I saw the price of the blade... I don't want to take it out of the house with that price. Any suggestions?

The SOG had a 5.6" titanium handle. 4.5" VG10 blade steel. and street price was ~$450.
Your wife has extremely good taste.

How expensive a knife are you willing to carry?
How fussy are you about the rest of the design?

The least expensive really large, decently built, folder that comes to mind is a Kabar Mule.
A Kabar Mule has a 5 1/4" Glass fiber reinforced Nylon handle and a 3.8" blade of AUS 8. It sells for about $50 and is, as they say, "robustly built".
The handle is large and roundish and the knife carries best in a sheath which comes with it.
Knifecenter is a dealer member, so here's something to look at.

As was already posted, Cold Steel loves to make large folders. They are in a price bracket between the mule and the SOG.

Spyderco resilience. Big blade, full flat ground awesomeness, all the deployment speed of your high end Spydercos, and a tough steel that is easy to make scary sharp. And if you tinker, you can mod it too. I made mine look like the Military, and weigh just a couple tenths of an ounce more than one, too.

Thank you for your quick responses and suggestions. As for my wife's tastes, I'd have to say they are questionable at best. She married me after all. Also the only reason she picked the cat was because "It was pretty." Not that I mind either of her choices.
As for my price range I'd have to say I'm willing to carry $150 - $200 CDN for a blade. That would probably work out to about $120 USD.

Sounds like a Cold Steel folder would be right up your alley. The Recon 1 probably being your best value. You might also watch to for sale by individuals section of the forum for a Spyderco Manix XL. It's similarly sized and can often be had for cheap.
