Looking for reputable knife repair services

I currently own a small folder which I used quite frequently up until a couple months ago when the locking mechanism failed and has now fallen off, and the blade became very loose (lots of play).

The knife is of sentimental value so I would really like to have it fixed. Does anyone know of reputable knife repair services online?

Thanks. Here's a picture of the knife's condition

I think your best bet is to contact the company and see if you can get a replacement liner or simply buy a "parts" knife from eBay and steal the liner from it. There's no good way to fix that break. You'd have to weld it back together, grind the excess material off and then try to match what looks like a bead blasted finish. Would cost as much as a new custom knife.

That knife is a Sheffield Boreal. If you do a Google search for "Sheffield Boreal" you will see that they are widely available for purchase. There are two sizes. I don't know which size you have there, but the one that is 7.5" in length when open can be found for under $14. I've seen the smaller one (6" in length when open) being sold for under $10.

I don't think that there is any way to fix the lock on your knife. Even if the lock bar could be welded back in place, I highly doubt that the lock face would mate properly with the blade tang, and I doubt the detent would be in the right place. Also, I don't believe that welded joints function well as springs. And a liner lock is basically just a leaf spring.

Like ATwistedStaple said, your best bet is to buy another knife and cannibalize the part. Either that, or use this as a reason to get a new and different knife and create a new sentimental attachment.

Are you in the U.S.? What is the OAL measurement of your knife when opened?

I believe I have one of those rolling around a shelf in the garage somewhere. If I can find it, it is yours free.

Let me know.
