The cost of postage from Australia would make them more expensive than
buying local.
However my tip is to go to the local spring maker and ask for some annealed spring steel. I have also got new offcuts from the local saw doctor.
Its Worth a try. It worked for me in the early days. It will get you started. Once your hooked you will not mind 25 or $30 a foot for the better stainless.
Don't forget to ask for annealed spring if you want to file and cut it.
My first big bowie I chanin drilled to shape. Way to much work start on a small one first and get the hand skills up the make a bigger model.
I could use a free power hammer. Any one? LOL...really though, bladesmiths and blacksmiths tend to be users of scrap more than givers of scrap. Although, if you happen to be standing around my scrap pile sometime sharing the six pack you brought and spot something you can really use, I'd probably share.
