Hello all,

you may remember my post where I was looking for KYDEX in little pieces. I would like to thank to all who responded and especially to those gentlemen who sent me the material.

Thank you very much.

Now I have similar problem. I am looking for screws I would use to attach a handle for my kit knife. I already used regular screws (with nut) but they look ugly (at least on one side). I also looked for different screws in on-line catalogs but could not find the proper ones. And they are sold in big quantities.

The knife is about the size of BM Nimravus and I am looking for 2-4 sets of screws I could use to attach the handle. I do not know what BM uses to attach the handles but Camillus uses (for their Talon) small metal cylinder with thread inside and two screws (torx 8) on both sides. This is a link to picture of those screws (posted by James Mattis).

This is a picture of my knife kit from both sides:

I would appreciate if someone could help me somehow. Please note that I am not doing this to get something for free. I am willing to pay the shipping cost and reasonable fee. I just do not need 100 pc. of one screw type.

Thank you.

David

Hello David,

I am still looking for kydex over here in europe. Lucky you, you found some.

About the screws, I always use a brass rodd, which I drill a hole trough and turn screw-wire in, the size I have suitable screws. The brass rods are the fixed to one scale, by roughing the exterior up with 40 grit sanding paper and glueing them in the scale with epoxy. If you don't drill the hole all the way trough, you can see how a rivet would look on the scales.
Personally, I think brass rivets would look cool on the knife.
Really cool designed knife tough. Looks like a real user. What's the steel?

greetz, Bart.

E-mail me freely.

Bart,

some of our BF forumites were kind enough to send me some KYDEX. I still have some so next time I go to Brussels I will take some for you.

To tell the truth I do not understand your description (I guess my imagination is not good enough)

but if you could post some pictures....

The knife is ATS-34 from Mike Irie. I changed the handle shape a bit and will make some changes again (so it looks like Camillus Talon

hy david,

There are several suitable options:
1) buy ready made screws (knifemakers bolts). If you live in Tsjech Rep, try contacting Wolf Borger (Germany, rather expensive, he has an online catalog) or contact one of your collegues in your country (like ottokar pok in Pfilzen).

2) Make them yourself. That's what i do and what bart is trying to describe. Sometimes i keep things easy and just glue in a pin (without bolts). With a good epoxy glue, it should do the trick. What bart suggests is: buy some inexpensive round brass (or stainless) bar (8mm), drill a hole in the middle and treath the inside (i use M3). This 8 mm material will form the 'female' part of your bolts. I was able to find some treathed (M3) brass rod. If you don't find this, buy a round (3mm) and treath it yourself. This will form the 'male' part.
For fixing these home made pins, drill the 3 mm hole in the handle and countersink the 'female' head of your bolt. I use a 8mm wood drill for this, since it creates a hole with flat bottom. Combine different materials (brass, stainless) to obtain special effects.

Hope to have helped you out (your knife looks great),

tim
