Hey everyone, new to Blade Forum and new to knife collecting as well. I'm looking for several knives to keep in various work bags, packs, vehicles, etc. I think I would like to stick with fixed blades, something smallish because I have larger blades for dedicated purposes. These knives would just be for backup or general use. It has to be something made in the USA. I don't want something ridiculously expensive, but I also don't want something cheap either. I don't mind to spend good money on a quality item, just something not outrageous. Let's hear and see what everyone recommends!

Esee as mentioned,Kabar/ Becker, Buck, Tops, white River all have great choices and reasonable prices. You might look at Architect knives at TKC- you can pick steel/handle/sheath. Good luck with your search.

Edited to add that personally I think the Becker BK7 is a perfect truck or bugout knife and what I keep in my truck.

I have a Buck 684, and it's a very nice little knife. It's got a rubber handle, and is about $30. Very capable and useful little knife.

Morakniv 511 can be had for under $10. Eldris around $25. Made in Sweden, not USA sorry

You dont want something expensive left in a vehicle over night. My community had several cars broke into a couple weeks ago.

Some of the items stolen were hand guns. Who leaves a gun in the car over night?

2 cars were moved around the block because the owner left the keys in the ignition!

Not to derail the thread but i have 3 guns in my truck and 2 chainsaws worth about $1500 (just the saws) right now. And my wife has my .38spcl in her car. We dont lock our vehicles at night either.
I have a gec h20 in my console at all times also. Its a great knife for trck carry, small and useful.

For inexpensive (because multiples and leaving in vehicle) and American-made, I'm voting for something from Ontario's Old Hickory line.

Hit up a flea market and see if you can score a few old fixed blade knives for cheap. Buck, Marbles, Western, Case, etc.,They don’t have to look good, they’re just going to sit in a pack or some random place until they’re called on, and when you need to cut something they’ll do magnificently, provided you give them a good cleanup and sharpening before laying them in their appointed places.

Is the gerber strong arm American made?

Cheap ish, super sturdy stainless for the leaving in the car bit.

Schrade USA Old Timer - vintage, i.e. old and probably used. See the auction sites.

Depends on where you live. I keep AR and a Glock in my truck and my wife keeps another AR in her vehicle. But we live in a rural area and we park our vehicles in a garage overnight. Definitely not something you’d want to do in a big city, but that’s why we won’t ever live in a big city.

I need to find a place that has an Esee Izula to check out. That looks a lot like what I’m looking for size wise.

I keep a SS Mora companion in my truck at all times, in case I need a fixed blade while out and about. I have always managed to get by with my pocket knife so far. The Mora is a good choice to leave in a vehicle, depending on where you live corrosion resistance may be important

I didn’t realize you were looking for a small knife. The Izula is a great knife. I have one in S35 with extended G10 scales. Really a lot of knife in a small package. BTW the S35 necker is on sale right now.

I find USA Oldtimers everywhere garage sales and flea marketsfixed and slipjoints for my truck.
I keep Victranox in my cars and cycle

I was going to recommend the Buck 684 small Bucklite max, but they seem to be discontinued now.
It's a shame too, because they're a great knife I've gifted a few of.

^^I see the 684 and 685 available at one of the popular CS vendors, and better yet the Buck web page. So still around I’d have to say.
