Looking for small bag - Maxpedition Fatboy?

I'm looking for a small bag to hold my cell phone, iPod, knife or two, lighter, water bottle, etc - basically everything that I carry in my hands or pockets on a daily basis. Nothing too big, and nothing too 'purse-like'

Tried searching a bit, and the Maxpedition Fatboy comes up often, and a small Timbuk2 bag was also suggested - what other options am I missing?

Thanks.

Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon II. I used a Fatboy for awhile but it was just too small. Compartments were OK but did not hold enough at any given time. No water bottle holder. Jumbo has one but you'd be better off with the Pygmy.

You took the words right out of my mouth. (I thought somebody was reading my mind .... :) )

I too used a Fatboy for quite a while. Actually I started off with an M1 waistpack, went to the Fatboy, now have a Pygmy Falcon II

The Fatboy was great for a small collection of EDC stuff, keys, wallet, knife or two, sunglasses and so on. Trouble is it's not much good if you want a decent sized water bottle or you need to carry anything large, and so on.

The Pygmy is, for my purposes, just about right. The down side of course is that it really is a backpack so it's a bit bulkier to carry around.

The jumbo fatboy works great - it carries plenty of stuff for a day's outing, has a built in water bottle holder, and the gear is easily accessible while carrying the bag.

I had a Jumbo. The problem I encountered with it is that you can't pack a lot of stuff in it and expect it to be comfortable to wear. The single strap killed my shoulder. If the shoulder strap was wider I think it would have been fine. I switched to a Pygmy Falcon II and I like it a whole lot better. I also purchased a Typhoon gearslinger and the wider strap on that makes it very comfortable to wear no matter how much I stuff into it.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not sure I want an actual backpack like the Pygmy Falcon, but I'll certainly look into it. I think I may have to drive myself out to the nearest Maxpedition retailer and take a look to get a handle on sizes, etc.

i wish i coulda dont that, AFAIK no one in my area sells max (austin TX metro area).

I have been carrying a black Fatboy for around a year or so. Has served me well for work (Real Estate Appraiser) and personal. Stored my Glock 27 (in a Serpa) or Kimber Pro Tac with ease, as well as knives, extra mags, a couple flashlights, cell phone, dig cam in a case on one of the too few pals straps, etc. I just bought a Remora, thinking it might be a little bigger, but am a little dissapointed with the space. Just spent another $80 on accessory pouches to pimp it out a little, but I have quite a bit invested now. Should be fine, but like others, there is no store in my area to see the stuff first, so I'm buying blind. If I were to recommend anything, it would probably be the Fatboy Jumbo. Maxpedition is great stuff though. Good luck!

I did the research, fondled both in person, and easily chose the Maxpedition Colossus over any of the Fatboy models. Very pleased with my choice.

I like my jumbo. I can carry a small assortment of gear (First aid kit, gum, pens, pad, Leatherman, firestarting stuff, a few lights, spare batteries, cell phone) AND a compact SLR, spare lens and a flash unit if I am shooting. I recently added one of those folding dump pouches to carry a water bottle too if I need to as I use the water bottle pouch for a lens usually.

All that can get pretty heavy on the shoulder so I trasfer stuff to a camelback backpack if I am walking long distances.
