So I am extremely experienced in the backcountry and have started to extend out into doing more solo adventures and in doing so I am working on pulling together some SAR information for my contacts in the front country. I think that this would be very useful for the SAR folks and could speed up the search, and they would know it was accurate information. I know that when somebody goes missing there are some questions that are asked, or at least some information that is very useful to aide in the search of the lost person. Things like color of backpack and coat, age, weight, height, experience level, along with the all important plans of where this person was going.

Now what I would like to do is to get all of this information pulled together in a packet. The idea is that if I go missing whoever it is that is supposed to call the authorities has a manila envelope or binder with all of the information that the SAR people could ever want. My only issue here is that I am not entirely sure what all that they would want. So I guess I am looking for good information to put into this packet, and some resources of where to look for this kind of information. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks and be safe out there.

also before its brought up I already know about PLB's and am planning on getting one before I get hard core into solo adventures.

you have the general idea, more from a SAR site

"Leave the following with a friend: your plans, route, vehicle description and license #, recent photo, sole pattern and size, scent articles, gear description, and who/when to call. (and your cell phone number?)"

Actual measurements of your the impression your boot leaves or even an imprint of the boot (you can do it in aluminum foil) is great.

Of course, the best thing you can leave is a good description of where you are going and with time frames.

I'll find a list of questions and post a link.

An actual photocopy of the map of the area you'll be in.
Also specifics on what trail, lake, river, peak, etc. you are using/headed for.

Vehicle you'll be leaving at the trailhead/parking area

Ex:
I'm gonna be in the Huge Ass Trees Wilderness Area.
Driving a white 92 Bronco. Plate #123ABC.
Parking at the 100 Miles of Uphill Pain Trailhead.
Plan on overnighting at Cold Lake or Colder Lake and fishing Upper No-Catch Creek the next day.
Purple glitter REI framepack.
Orange/brown 2 man tent.
Yellow slumberjack sleeping bag.

If I don't call you by 7:30pm on Friday, call the calvary.

This is essentailly what I leave my wife when I go.
This info would be very helpful to any SAR group to find me.
