I've been looking thru this forum for some time and have very rarly posted here. This spring and summer I'd like to do some overnight hikes within a few hours drive of my house (in Felton PA) and would like some suggestions of places to go. I've gone on plenty of day hikes but don't have much experience with overnights. I'd like to hike for 5 or 6 hours, camp and get back to the car. I'm planning on taking a tent and gear.

Thanks for your suggestions,
Patrick

check out
allegheny front trail,Pine Creek Valley/gorge,black forst trail
i havent been to any of these, but they were highly recommended to me,and plan on doing a cpl of weekends trips coming up in the spring.

Thanks for the suggestions, the Allegheny Front Trail looks like my starting place for the summer.

+1 on Allegheny Front Trail and Black Forest Trail. I've done both a few times. Some others if you're willing to go that far are the Mid State Trail and Loyalsock Trail.

Lots closer for you is the AT. It passes right through Duncannon. Anywhere from Harper's Ferry to Duncannon looks like easy driving from Felton.

You're about fifteen minutes from me man, and maybe 20 from Scott. Check out Susquehannock State Park, the view from the eyrie is worth the visit alone. Lots of trails around there. Small family campground, Muddy Run. Head over the 462 or 30 bridge, some neat spots along the Susquehanna. Check out PA's DNR site. A neat spot in York, Rocky Ridge, has some gorgeous views. Michaux state forest, between Gettysburg and Chambersburg. Codorus SP near Hanover. Rocks State Park and Susquehanna SP's right over the line in MD. Elk Neck SP in Cecil County. Literally dozens of small day/overnight hikes (although alot of the small municipal parks close at dusk) within an hours drive. Gander Mountain in York usually has a list of local get togethers and events. There are numerous sporting goods stores in the York area that will tell you little places to camp and fish.

Knife content for a bit, I was at Muddy Run's annual powwow, and traded for a well used custom made Hudson Bay chief camp knife. Brought it to Scotts campout last year, and found out from several members on here that it was made by Terry Baublitz. With a little TLC from Scott, I have been using it all winter.

BTW, Harpers Ferry is beautiful. I've got to get out there again.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Looks like I'll be able to go to a different as often as I want.

SilentThunder: I spend alot of time wandering around at PrettyBoy resuivior, as much as possible.

Thanks again,
Patrick

Another great spot man!

Can't camp on the Heritage Rail trail, but a great day hike. Check out the Tunnel in PA (my favorite spot), and the area in Hereford/Monkton that parallels the Gunpowder river in MD. I would like to hike the entire trail from York to Hunt Valley.

You going to the York show this weekend?

Its a bummer that there's no camping around prettyboy or the NCR trail. I've biked most of the rail trial (Hunt Valley to Monkton), and have finnaly started to ride north from monkton during the summer.

If I can this summer I want to walk from old Falls RD to the Damn and back. I usually just do sections of the trail.

I'm looking forward to doing some overnights this spring. What show's in york this weekend?

Patrick

Sadly no chance of making it to the show. Got too much stuff I'm supposed to be doing to make more $$$$.

I know what you mean, I'm going up after overtime Saturday. Hope to make the last half hour to hour. Door fees are usually free by that time.
