I'm 73 years old and have carried a folding knife since I was 8. That first knife was multi-blade Cub Scout slip joint. After a nasty cut I spent the next 65 years with locking folders.

I'm a wood butchering style whittler and was after a folder. I spotted a GEC 62 Carver and had to have one. Once I saw the quality I went after 97, a beaver with jigged Brazilian red wood.

While looking for it, I found the Viper Swayback Wharncliffe in stag. Sweet little knife.

I'm not a collector. I may accumulate too many knives but all become users or trades.

Let me get to the purpose of this rambling. While I'd love to find a GEC 99 Wall Street Wharncliffe, I see that I'm a couple of years too late and many dollars short.

I'm after a USA made single blade Barlow with a clip point or spear point blade. I prefer carbon steel and stag but bone or wood is OK.

What are you're recommendations?

Go to Antique Stores and look for Barlows made by Camillus . They are very good and not expensive . You can also watch the Knife Exchange here on the forums or you can bid on some on the big auction site . Camillus , Robeson , Case , Remington , Ulster , Utica , Schrade are just some of the good ones . You may have to settle for one with 2 blades though .

Case makes one and two blade barlows. I have a single blade Case Barlow clip point that I like. They're about $60 new. Mine is stainless, not sure if they offer carbon steel in this, but their stainless is just as good.

Someone might like the additional handle thickness in the hand, for carving, that a second blade provides. One does not have to use the second blade. The users are so inexpensive that a knife mechanic could remove the second blade, also inexpensively. Maybe even on a half dozen of them (or maybe six).

Theres the Moore maker boys knife I've heard people talking about lately.
It's a single blade clip point Barlow style with a 1095 blade.
Sounds right up your alley.

Really? Ash, osage, AND ironwood? That's strange. it still lets me put one (ash) in my cart.

That is a little confusing, I had the same problem at fist. I wonder where they'd do the engraving, bolster?
