On a recent trip to Dallas to visit my parents my father gave me a Norlund Camping Hatchet. He said he didn't know much about it other than he had used it a lot and had it for a good while.

Have any of you guys heard of this brand? If so are they good tools? Made in America? Type of steel?

Thanks.

I'm wondering myself because I picked one up. How do these compare to the wildlife hatchet?

You can always use Google.

Norlund was a brand from the Mann Edge Tool Co. They made a hunting/camping line of hatchets, cruisers, single and double bit axes. They had different sub lines as well, such as Norlund Frontier. Early pieces are highly sought after for whatever reason, more hype than anything as even the early pieces are of ok quality, nothing great. The later pieces, into the 70s and 80s are of terrible quality overall. Lots of guys like them and they go for good money on auction sites, as stated, who knows why.

I think they are so collectable because collecters remember them from there chidhood.
What is strange is that Mann made some really good axes also.
