Newbie here. I found an interesting knife yesterday and I haven't been able to find any info.

I'd like to know approx. age, maker, and any other details that might be helpful. I do not care about value as I have no intentions of selling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Looks like a Mexican tourist piece imho. You might have better luck on the BR Levine subforum. Lot of knowledgable people there.--KV

If not Mexican, then might be from the Philippines. They mix English, Spanish and Tagalog words in all their conversations so that word would not be that unusual to see on a knife. John

Nice piece, man. It's a Mexican scorpion tail knife. They also call it "Guanajuato style". I've seen that same knife being auctioned many times. That style was commonly made by a blacksmith called P.Lepe. Let me see if I can find something in Mexicoarmado. It's a Mexican forum about weapons and they have a knife subforum.

Oh wow. You nailed it! I did a quick search of "scorpion tail knife" and some of the images are nearly identical. Although, they look like they might be a little bit bigger. Do you have any idea of age?

You know what? I was going to say that I thought this knife is definitely related to P.Lepe = Pedro Lepe. He was an early XX century blacksmith from Jalisco. I've seen many of his knives that have that same arrow. Some attributed to a C.Camarena also.

On closer inspection of the mark, I think this was made by an ancestor of the Larios family. There are three families that I know of that are making knives in the Sayula, Jalisco region: Lepe, Larios and Ojeda. In this case I think they simply made a spelling mistake in the marking of your knife. Using 2 R's instead of 1 for Larios. Lol. Doesn't surprise me. I've seen it many a time in vintage Mexican knives. Until recent years there was a lot of analphabetism among the general population. Knife could have been made by Elias Larios. Hence E LARRIOS in the marking.

In conclusion, early XX century knife made in Sayula, Jalisco, Mexico by an ancestor of the Larios family.

This is the facebook page of the Larios family in case you want to ask them directly:
