Looking for some materials.

I am looking for a place that I can get snakewood and mosaic copper rods for making pins. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is snakewood available stabilized or does it need to be?

So you are going into knifemaking too?...good for you.

Whike I can´t help you on where you can get the stuff I can tell you abit about Snakewood. I do not believe it can be stabilized. It is very dense. Be very carefull not to get it hot while working it as it will form small cracks that may grow bigger. When I work it and have gotten it to 90-99 final shape I give the handle a coat of Zap Ca..(superglue super penetrating) This I do to make sure there is no open miniature cracks. I do not know if it helps or not but can´t hurt. I send it clean afterworths....Do not force the pins in their holes....drill the holse slightly oversize. It likes to crack if you stress it....and finally...I LOVE IT!

Snakewood can be stabilized if it is cut into scales less than .375 thick. I send my snakewood to Mike Ludeman at WSSI (http://www.stabilizedwood.com). He does great work.
