I am looking to buy a new fixed blade for carry and SD. I have been searching and reading and I would like to hear what you have to say. Perhaps you might suggest something out there that I am missing.

The critera:

1. Blade must be under 5.5 inches. Tanto's are ok.

2. No rubbery handles. It catches on my shirt and makes it ride up thus defeating the concealment. I would prefer something slick like stacked leather, micarta etc.

3. Nothing super expensive.

To give you an idea, I am looking at the "short" Kabar 1250.

Thanks for any input.

I would check out The Benchmade Nimravus 140, I have one and its def worth taking a look at, the blade material on mine is a 154 CM and has G10 handles and a Kydex Sheath that rides tite to the side if you have it on your belt... Here are the specs I believe overall length is around 9 inches.. Also if your are looking for a smaller version on the Nimravus check out the CUB its also a excellent little knife.. I found my Nimravus lightly used for around 85.00 they normally sale for no more than 100 bucks... Good luck with your choice...

Blade Length: 4.50"
Blade Thickness: 0.115"
Blade Material: 154CM, D2 Tool Steel, or Trainer
Blade Hardness: 58-60HRC for 154CM, 59-61HRC for D2
Blade Style: Modified Tanto
Weight: 6.20oz.

Take a look at Entrek. These are simple, sturdy, and great priced knives that have micarta handles and 440C blade steel. I said elsewhere that Entrek probably does 440C steel the best of anyone today. These are tough everyday users that will stand up to use. They have a few in the range of 4.0" to 5.0", tanto and other shapes. Custom makrer Ray Ennis is the designer behind these knives. Here are a couple of links to look at;

Cutter17,

Thanks, great link. The Falcons and Rangers are exactly what I am interested in if they were just under the 5.5 blade length. Here in Texas we cannot carry over that length. I know, its stupid.

KaBar, Case, and I think Ontario all make a series of Hunters with stacked leather handles and none of them are that much.

Click on the first link, Entrek's home page, and then click on new models, as they are coming out, and may already be out, with a nice 4.75" bladed knife called the Bravo 11.

also go here and read about the quality of the 440C steel used on these knives. Btw, I AM NOT affiliated in any way with anyone selling these knives. I'm just as amazed as the next person of the quality of these knives. And I do not intend this to be Deal Spotting at all!

What is top money you are willing to pay?

If you put out some cash:

Rat RC-3 would be awesome:

O.A Length: 8 5/16" (Standard Model)
O.A. Length: 8 3/16" (Modified Pommel)
Cutting Edge length: 3 3/8"
O.A. Blade Length: 3 7/8"
Maximum thickness: 1/8"
Weight: 5.2 ounces (knife only)
Weight: 9.3 ounces (knife and sheath)

But that might little bit over your budget but you would get no BS warranty that is one of the best in industry. Check the RC-3 you might like it.
