I am looking for a bladesmith to build me a fighter in the $300-$400 range.

thank you,

Gitch-U

Look at Mike Mooneys site at moonblades.com. I have handled many of his knives and was very impressed especially considering the price. He is at the top of my list for a new fighter. He had one with a giraffe handle that looked superb. Unfortunately, and not uncommon, it was at a time when funds were scarce. I would call him since his site, IMHO, does not display a representative example of his skills. Steve Vanderkolff is another guy that produces a good knife at good value. Kevin

At least until he catches up with his voluminous PREPAID backorders!

I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I'm kind of into forging fighters. A couple of questions come to mind. First of all how do you plan to fight with it? Are you a slasher, stabber, hacker, chopper, slice and dice, diferent blade styles lean to diferent fighting methods. What steel are you interested in? I lean to High carbon. Handle material? Cordwrap , they are grippy. Handle design? Do you change grips or are you stuck with one.
Are you planing to use it as stricly a fighter or does it have to double as a utility balde also. Just some questions. If you are going to build it ,it might as well be what you want.

Larry,

I have been trained to use both heaven and earth grips, 90% slashing, 10% thrust/stab.

I would want an approx. 9" blade (5160 steel) with exotic wood handle.

Stricty a fighter. I have plenty utility knives.

5160 is a great forging steel. I have to go to a graduation party right now but later I'll post a picture of the one I forged at the Appalachian Knifemakers Guild (AKG) Rendezvous. It's a cordwrap but the desige is good. We could put an exotic handle on one no problem.

If you get a chance send a sketch of the handle you have in mind to

Persion style blades lean to a slashing style of fighting. We can blend the two tgoether to come up with your custom fighter.
