I have been putting off a certain knife I wanted to make for myself untill I felt comfortable making it, well the times here and I dont know where to go about getting this done. Its a small area I want a coon scrimshawed on, and I dont have a clue who or where I can get this done? or even the prices of doing something like this?I looked on the internet and didnt come up with much and figured some of you good fellows might be able to put me on to someone, I really appreciate your help!!! Thanks again so much for everyones help,Charlie

There are several scrimshanders who do work like that. Check in the general discussion forum. Also check the ads in the knife magazines.

Stag can be scrimshawn, but the porous nature makes for some problems. Sand it to prepare the area. Seal it well with thin CA, sand, re-seal, repeat. Do this until the area is glassy smooth and the antler material is completely filled ( no pores). If you don't get it filled, the ink will fill the little holes and make a gray or splotchy looking picture. Look at it under magnification and with angled light, to make sure.

IIRC, there is a gal down your way who does great scrimshaw. Check with Tess and Jay Nelson. I think they know her.
