Hello, I have a knife that is very tight to open. It has plastic scales that I'd like to replace with horn or bone. I was just ripped off by a supposed knife maker, I sent $75 and the knife. Waited two months etc. nothing happened. He's keeping the money but sending the knife back. I d still like to have it repaired. Can anyone recommend an actual professional that can do this? Here is a pic of the knife. It's nothing fancy but its difficult to find a marlin spike on a folder not made in China.

I understand that you want this knife re-handled but another alternative would be to look for a Buck 315 Yachtsman. It's similar to your knife and made in the U.S.A.

Sorry about your negative experience with the knife maker.

I got two!! I LOVE the 315's
I liked how the British one had a little shackle key on it and was a bit smaller.
And I got knife acquisition syndrome:-)

I am sorry you got ripped off! If the maker is a member here or someone we might know please start a thread in feedback so we can all get warned.

What Ernie1980 Ernie1980 said. Keeping your money and not doing any work is unacceptable.
I surely will, he still has my knife. He says he'll send it back "in a couple days" I'm waiting to see if he actually sends it. If not I'll simply buy a new one and pay a reputable knife maker to do the work.
Really I have no one to blame but myself. He said send the knife with the money. Of course he didn't say WHEN he'd do it. Two months later it's "I have a website, I have people all over the world sending me their knives, blah blah blah I'm a very busy man"
but offers no eta now or back when he asked for the money and knife in the first place. I realize I've been swindled. Sending money and a knife to a Benton Tennessee PO Box was stupid on my part

Yea, I had a couple recovers done by a very reputable guy but he was painfully slow (6 and 4 months) and he wanted full payment upfront. In the recover game since we work on "your" knife and don't build one from scratch it's not out of the question for the client to at the very least pay a deposit up front to the service provider. I didn't feel comfortable paying in full upfront and I don't expect that from people I do work for now. A 50% deposit is more than sufficient to cover any material cost to complete this type of project with the rest due upon completion. Honestly though if you didn't ask up front for an estimated completion date and he didnt offer one I really don't see what the issue is? Also, oftentimes makers don't want to give you some BS completion date because it can set up an unreasonable expectation between maker and client. If that timetable isn't met then an impatient client......well you get my point. Anyway, I dont know who you sent your knife to but I dont really see what the problem is here unless he said he's not giving your money back with the knife then that would be a problem imo.
