Looking for something a little special

Hi folks.

It's been a while since I've been on here. Usually I'm looking for another new knife but this time's I'm trying to track down something a bit more special.

I had a really bad accident with one of my eyes, lost most of the vision in it, shittiest part is I was already legally blind. A few surgeries and a lot of trying to come to terms with it later, things are looking a bit better and there's some hope though more work is needed. I told myself I would get myself something a bit special and I think I'm finally ready to get something new.

A couple months before the accident I lost my mini cooked river. I loved that knife, even if it had poor fit and finish, and I'm constantly thinking how much I miss it. I know I could just get the same one again but I was hoping to find a special version of it. I'd love to get my hands on a gold class but that's just a pipe dream, even if I could find it there's no way I could afford it.

So I'm open to other options. I've been looking around but everything I like is outside my budget. I'm hoping someone here might have the lead on something nice for a decent price.

My budget is $500 CAD, I know that doesn't but anything too special but it's what I can work with. It has to be available in Canada, as such it can't be assisted or gravity. I'm looking for something under 3.5" in blade length, something you can deep pocket carry and forget is in your pocket. I like a clean refined look but still with some of the classic outdoorsman aesthetic. I really like many of Benchmades designs, Herman knives are beautiful, the Titanium AD20.5 is nice. That magnetic Winterblades knife, I'm not even huge on the looks but the sound it makes is amazing..but I digress.

I keep writing this and deleting it thinking it's too much but heck, here goes anyway.

I wish you the best with your recovery, sir.

I used to love BM Barrage. I think I liked the mini Barrage better. Since they discontinued their custom shop, I discontinued using them.

Spyderco Manix 2 blade is clean af. TBH, I wouldn't have fell in love with them if there weren't 3rd party accessories (clips, screws, scales, metal lock)

The Barrage is still available, but it is assisted: Benchmade 580BK-2205 Limited Edition Barrage AXIS Assisted Folding Knife 3.66" CPM-M4 Black Plain Blade, Jade G10 Handles - KnifeCenter Exclusive

Thank you very much for the well wishes. I actually have a Manix 2 in s110v, great knife though the lock on mine is really stiff. I've read people say they loosen up after a while but mine never did, still a great knife though.

Sorry to hear about your sight issues.
Can you legally own and carry a Chris Reeve Mnandi in Canada?
They are real beauties, and seem to fit a lot of what you're looking for...

Thank you, yes the Mnandi would be legal and it's a beautiful knife. A bit out of my price range though, unless I can find a used one.

Thank you for the kind offer, I would be very interested in talking with a custom maker. I don't have the opportunity to carry fixed blades too often but I do like having one when I go camping and I have been after a nice bush crafter for quite some time.

I know you can do the build-your-own thing with the Mini Crooked River but really you can just buy most of the combinations that make sense on Warrior and Wonders. I think I'm going to hold off on another one of these till I can get a nice limited edition or a gold class.

Half of the fun is in the search: Good Luck, and Happy Hunting. 👍
