Looking for Steak Knives

I know someone who has that exact set, they are nice knives, non serrated, they come very sharp and they are great to use.

It depends if you want fancy or not. Everyday use or dinner party type use.
We were given some Victorinox steak/sandwich knives (the ones with the black handle and rounded tip) and have continued to use them almost daily for over 25 years. They can be bought for about $7 a piece a various dept. stores such as Target.

In 1999 I bought a set of Ginsu knives for $7.40 shipped and a set of 4 steak knives was included. I gave away the set and kept the steak knives. :) As it has been mentioned before, cutting on a plate with any knives has a very negative effect on their edge retension. It makes me shiver when I see people cutting on marble, ceramic, metal or granite.

I've never understood the need for steak knives. I find my butter knives do double-duty quite well for cutting steaks.

Unless you like sharpening a lot, I would get serrated because cutting on porcelain or ceramic isn't really kind to blade edges.

Buck has a nice line of steak knives, But you get what u pay for in knives for your kitchen. Don't be cheep or you'll regret every time you cut something.

Wuhstof makes a nicely designed, forged steak knife. They are often on sale. Shun is the gold standard though. Just more money. You definitely do not want a serrated blade. They tear meat.
