This is what I have carried for a year. CRKT FORESIGHT

Pros
-soild lock up
-ease of opening
-flipper
-decent edge retention (AUS8 if memory serves)
-good size handle.
-good deep pockect clip

Cons
-Tip down carry only
-chisel style edge
-a bit of freak out factor. I work with people who are all supposed to carry a blade at work per union contract. I have gotten some comments about it.

I have carried a partial serrated for 10 years. Half of what I cut is rope, cordage, etc. I also carry a leatherman surge at work. On days off, I usually just carry the blade. I don't know if I would want to give it up but I would like a v edge as opposed to the offset chisel shape. I don't know enough if that is possible with serrations or not.

Weight doesn't bother me. I get to wear jeans and cargo shorts at work so that isn't an issue but I don't need to do weight training if I don't need to.

I personally like the 3.25" blade.

Money. Best value, but $140 is about it.

I have also thought maybe picking up a pen knife in addition to curtail the freak out factor.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Have you ever tried carrying a plain edge? I used to go through a lot of rope and cordage at work too, but always preferred a plain edge. If you'd like to try it out I can lend you a Kershaw Knockout. Hell of a knife for the price.

Buck vantage pro (large) in s30v

Seriously hits every "pro"
3.25" blade
Deep carry
(Far) Better edge retention then aus8
Comfortable grip and ergos
Flipper

And it is tip up...

Only about $60-70

As a bonus pick up a combo edge Kershaw blur blem for like $35 from Kershawguy, no flipper but great a/o;

2 totally different but great blades with great ergos for you to choose from, for just over $100 shipped.

Wow. I was going to suggest a Benchmade Volli but I have to admit, the ideas above are all great. Never would have thought about the Buck.

Great knife for the price; holding it backwards to show the tip up deep carry clip.

Benchmade adamas 275. Can be plain or serrated edge. It is a bit on the heavy side, but to me I like the bigger heavy duty knives. Can also check out the cold steel series. I have had 2 recon 1 and they still used in my knife rotation. The price is nice from cold steel also. Can be found for 50-60 depending on the site you search.

The ONLY knife I EVER carry every day no matter what, is my crkt synergist boot knife. There are a few reasons I've made this knife my primary edc. I don't carry it in my boot. I carry it inside the waistband and behind the belt of whatever pants I'm wearing. This allows a low profile and concealed fixed blade. You completely forget it's even there and it allows you to carry a decent sized fixed blade without having a bulky intimidating thing hanging off your hip. I love that the sheath comes with a clip and not a loop. You could even carry it in your pocket if you want but be careful because without the added pressure of a waistband you might lose the knife since it is just a friction sheath.

As you can see it disappears on your hip.

Knife is dual edge but in New York state a dual edged knife can only be considered a Dirk or dagger (illegal for carry) when used with malicious intent which doesn't really make sense but I figure as long as I don't hurt anyone with it, it's fine to carry in my state. Check your state laws though.

Simple design but I love the lines. One of my favorite knives for edc without a doubt

I say replace a CRKT with another in this case (and it comes in partial serrated too!)

Please be careful. Cops are given ridiculous and unjustifiable amounts of latitude on such things and simply knowing/having available the text of the law may not be enough. Witness the predations of that scumbag Cyrus Vance in NYC, with the NYPD in his pocket.
