Looking for survival knife

Hi there.

Could you provide us with some additional information on what you plan to use this knife for? Are there some specific tasks or features you have in mind?

In general, I'm a fan of the Becker (Camillus) brand of knives for their durability, cutting ability, and attractive price. A BK-9 is my choice for all-around outdoors work; as an added bonus, the sheath includes a utility pouch that you can use for a small survival kit, multi-tool (never leave home without one!), or folder. The BK-9 is a handful, and the general consensus is that people either like the handle design - or hate it. The BK-7 is also a popular choice, and it is more compact than the 9.

You should also check out Cold Steel, particularly the Survival Rescue Knife and the Recon Tanto.

Also, run a search for 'survival knife' or other synonyms on the Bladeforums general forum and the Wilderness survival forum (in tactics and training); hundreds of questions similar to yours have been asked in the past, and many people with a lot more knowledge than I have responded to them.

Best of luck,

Mike

Thanks for the suggestions, having trouble running a search and sorry for the vague description im looking for a knife with a versatile serrated edge and a hollow handle right now IM looking at a chris reeve project 1 but the wave serrations dont look up to heavy tasks havent decided yet if i want a spear point or a clip.

You probably wouldn't have much luck searching for "survival" and "knife" because those terms are so common.

Chris Reeve serrations are very strong. I have a serrated Sebenza. They don't hang up or clog. He also has the Aviator model with a sawback, not that I'm real fond of sawbacks.

I can't think of many other production hollow handles. Here's one from Aitor.

You could always do the Chris Reeve Project I(spear point) or the Project II (clip point) without serrations. I am not crazy about the serrated edges either. Thats why I choose the non-serrated versions.
