Hi guys,

I've stressed the search engine enough, I simply can't find the post that my grey matter says was on the Blade Forums that describes making a resque belt from paracord.

I need to explain better I think but the paracord belt could be transformed into one long line of paracord by removing the "stop bolt" it then just unravels quickly into one long piece of paracord.

I remember reading that the "poster" talked about using it as a way to always have a "rope" at hand that could be thrown to a drowning victim.

Help me out here please, were's this post??

Hi Joe,

Thanks, that was exactly the page I was looking for!

I have gotten about a quarter of the way around my waist. The belt is about 8 links wide (using 550 cord) and I estimate that it will take about +/- 100 feet to complete.

All I can say about the process so far is that my fingers are tired!

I took me about 2 hours until I could get the weave down. I am going to try and find a crochet needle and see if that helps.

Good luck to all that attempt it. Have patience and prepare for sore fingers.

Hi Sidewinder,

About 100 feet? what's your waistsize? I need about 39" to go around "the bacon & eggs" ;) .

I just use a big BIC pen with the end cut off.

Once you've got it started.
You stick the pen through all the loops (with the open end first) then get a "bite" (I.E. grap and make a little fold) stick in the open end of the pen so it sticks in then just pull the pen back through.

Hope that makes since it's pretty easy that way, but
Anyone got a GOOD plan for an adjestable belt with it?

Piet,

My waist size is a 38. I talked to the guy that has the web site and he says that it's very hard to estimate the amount of cord needed. A lot depands on the width of the belt and how tight the weave is.

On the belt I'm making, the weave is fairly tight and about 8 loops wide. I want to make one for my jeans that will probably be about 6 loops wide and I think it will use up about 90 feet of 550 cord. The problem is that you have to estimate the length before you start. If you are a 39" waist, did an 8 loop belt with a fairly tight weave, I would start off with about 125 to 150' and you should have plenty to spare.

Let us know how it turns out and good luck,

Ok so I finally finished a paracord belt. It was 6 loops wide so it could fit through my belt loops on my jeans. It took about 80' of 550 cord. I used Fastex clips for the buckle. To make the belt adjustable, on the male end I attached a short length of 1.5" webbing and then attached the paracord to the webbing by using a small aluminim post. I'll try to get a picture of it.

Some helpful hints: I use a number two pencil to make the loops and got a small crochet needle to help pull the loops through. Try to stay consistant in the amount of tension and technique as you put on each row. Plan on spending a few hours getting the weave down before you attempt a full belt. You will get better results.

I made a second "belt" that really is not a full belt but more of a section of a paracord belt that I attached using velcro to the side of my regular 1.5" rigger belt. This is what I wear everyday. I wanted to have some paracord with me at all times but did not want to sacrafice my belt to use the cord. This way, I carry about 25' as a belt attachment and can use smaller sections without loosing the entire belt. replacement is much easier as well. Again, I'll try to post a picture.

Here are some pictures (sorry for the large images - I just got this camera and not sure how it works yet):
