Looking for the Folder to End All Folders

Hello folks,

I'm new to the forums, and thought I'd hit you all with a difficult question (well, I'm finding it tricky anyway!): what folder should I buy?

Since I was a wee lad my EDC has been a Victorinox SAK of some type or either. Currently a Classic Special Edition with horn handles or a black Climber, depending on circumstances. I'm now after something that will be my EDC for the rest of my life; something I can really be happy with, and hand down to my son one day.

So I'm looking for a single-blade folder with class. Something along the lines of the Northwoods Scagel folder #1, or a Jack Mosher or Todd Davison.

Requirements:

1) Ideally something no longer than 3 + 3/8 inches closed. 4 inches is a little too big, IMHO, for EDCing (in my environment). I've gone for a single-blade because I want to keep general bulk down to a minimum. If anyone has any recommendations that include other tools (scissors, second blade, etc), but are still relatively thin, I'd love to hear them.
2) I'd like to spend no more than $300 if possible, although I will consider up to $400 if it's perfect.
3) Elegant and classy, beautifully-made, but not an art knife. I want to use it. Something with real wood, or stag, or whatever. Nothing that looks even vaguely "tactical."

From my surfing through the forums recently, I know that there are a lot of very knowledgeable people around here, and I'm very interested to know what you all think.

Thanks,

Martin.

For a classy knife. Maybe a custom bearhead line trapper.

I bought a knife back when I was 18 and promised myself it was going to be the last. Well, that didn't happen...

Good recommendations by all so far, my favorite so far for an EDC is a William Henry B-09, But Todd Davison is designing one to my specs that will soon replace it. I have several of his knives and so far they meet one requirement of yours: PERFECT!

@JOAT: there are some nice Ray Covers around - I like the second one on this page. Any others you'd recommend?

@kidwholaughs: thanks for the tip. Any idea where I'd find out more about a good custom trapper?

@GigOne: My apologies! I should have been more specific: I'm looking for the folder to end all of my other folders, not all of yours.:p

@Geoff: thanks, but I think the Sebenzas veer a little into the "tactical" area for me.

@VCM3: thanks - not heard of that maker; will do some digging.

@James Todd: Thanks for confirming my suspicions on the Davison knives! Two questions:

a) Is there a good place online to buy Todd Davison knives?
b) Can I ask how much more it is to get Todd to custom-make? By all means PM me if you are willing to share, but not on the forum.

Here is a link to his website. http://www.tadscustomknives.com/

You will have to email me, you have yours turned off. jamesatodd@gmail.com for additional information.

Looks like it could be between a Ray Cover and a Todd Davison. Does anyone have a knife from either maker that they want to sell for the right price?
