Looking for the "new guy" thread...

Seems most forums have a place where new folks chime in and make their presence known. I haven't located one yet, and saw a few "Hello" type threads here, so I figured this was the place.

Anyway, I dunno that I'm a "knife-o-holic" per se, but I do enjoy having quality knives, and have been re-vamping my EDC collection as of late, picking up a few higher-end blades to replace some worn out (or never used, but no longer meet my needs) folders. Recent acquisitions include a Spyderco Delica4, three Benchmades (585 Mini-Barrage, 551 Griptilian, and 522 Presidio Ultra), and a Kershaw Leek with S30V blade and G-10 scales (still in the mail). I'm still looking to pick up a few others, primarily an Endura4 (or another Delica4) and a Kershaw Zing (because it looks interesting, mostly). The main reason for most of these purchases is, as I've mentioned, a need to update my EDC stable to replace a number of worn out, lower quality blades. However, I'm also moving to tip-up carry, as once I tried it with the Mini-Barrage I got in a trade, I found it faster to get the knife into use, and required less fumbling with the knife.

Anyway, I'll likely lurk most of the time while I learn my way around, but I'll make a few comments here and there, and probably bother a few sellers in the Exchange if anything nice comes along when I happen to have play money. :D

Welcome, tip-up is great, switched a while back, realized having to flip the knife to open was stupid.

Welcome aboard man. Was a tip down user for years myself till I figured out like you, how much faster and safer I can deploy when tip up. If your on this site as a member, sorry to say you already have the disease, you just don't want to admit yet, it's ok we're here to help. Enjoy

LOL. Well, you're probably right. I wouldn't say the disease is in full effect yet, perhaps, but I do have it.

I guess I'm "old fashioned" for someone in my generation. I feel that every man ought to own certain things, and know how to do certain things, such as drive a manual car, ride a motorcycle, make a fire, pitch a tent, change their own oil/tires, etc, safely and accurately use a variety of firearms, and carry a knife. And I've learned in life that buying cheap stuff usually isn't worth it. Budget knives are OK (my first was a CRKT M16-03Z, and it lasted me a solid 5 years being beat to heck in Scouting, etc), but there's no substitute for quality.

So yeah, I've got the disease. Just trying to keep it in check via a bit of denial is all. :D
