Does anyone have a suggestion for a tough pair of pants without cargo pockets? I like the idea of the RR 5.11 or the TAD Force-10 pants but I don't want any cargo pockets. Also, no velcro please. That stuff was invented by the devil as far as I am concerned.

Thanks, protodoc

Carhart makes really tough pants. Most of their styles do not have cargo pockets. There are also some brands that are cheaper copies of Carhart work pants that I have seen at WalMart and Home Depot.

ProtoDoc,
I see you're in NYC.
You had quite a selection of nail hard, tough pants over at Canal Jean... Alas, the icon of Soho shopping has gone the way of the Dodo. (they do have a Brooklyn store, but I have no idea where it is and how to get there)
Now, your only options left are IceBerg on Broadway, Dave's on 6th Avenue and some place on Broadway a few blocks below Canal Street.

Your best bet is the Carharrt pants made of heavy cotton duck, the same stuff as their work jackets. They're made in a variety of styles that should suit most of your casual and work needs. However, as you visit these stores, you can browse the other brands and see what strikes your fancy.

Check out Filson pants. They have ones ranging from double thick oil finish "tin pants", at least two weights of wool pants, and lighter weight cover cloth and safari cloth pants. You will pay a good amount of money for these, but they will last a life-time or two. They also make bibs and chaps. For more info, go to: www.filson.com You won't be disappointed.

I'll also suggest Carhart...Hell, a pit-bull on meth couldn't even rip those pants up.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Carhartt seems to be the way to go, expect my wife would pop a cork.
I am afraid I will need to go with something a wee bit more refined looking. I'll try to find some Filson's to try them out.

ps: Thanks Mutt for the local advice.
