Looking for two flashlights

Okay. #1- It's probably going to be a christmas gift to my father. He's always wanted a nice bright light for camping, but never got one. So I'm looking for a light that uses normal batteries (AA, AAA.etc), with nice bright output, and a good runtime. Also, water resistant/durable, since it'll be used for backpacking and all that. (It'll be used for camping trips up to a week. Although extra batteries are always an option) And preferably less than $50.

#2- For myself. I'm looking for a little EDC flashlight that runs on a single AA or AAA cell. Around $20. It'll just be a little thing to slip into my pockets that'll be there when I need it.

for your #2 ... I use a 1xAAA Fenix E01 with lithium cell for my key chain light

for your #1... have you thought of a good headlight? I find a hands free light to be more practical... I upgraded to a 3xAA Black Diamond Icon for this year's hurricane season as I'm trying to standardize batteries to solar rechargable AA Sanyo Eneloops....you will get a variety of comments about hand held lights, from those with a lot more experience and research than I can offer...

Just went through this exactly! Got my father-in-law a Maglite XL50 and me a Fenix E11. Love the Fenix, and I found a pocket clip from a Terra Lux Pen light that fit it perfectly.

I'm looking at the Fenix E21- but I'm afraid the runtime is too low for camping... any opinions on this one?

Here's a thread that I started with my thoughts on the Olight i3 EOS. I've since given it away, but that's only because I picked up an i1 not too long after. They have both been good little EDC lights and are very reasonably priced.

4sevens has a couple lights that should work for your dad. For your carry light I would suggest the Fenix E05. About $20 and much brighter than the E01.

For a 2xAA flashlight right now the 4sevens Quark "x" AA-2 is pretty much the best there is. I've been looking at the Jetbeam PA-40 as well (4xAA), though I will probably just get a Fenix TK41 (8xAA).

The little single AA cell Olight is a nice one and only runs ~$25 delivered. I got mine on sale from 4Sevens for $20 and carry it with me everywhere. It rides comfortably in my front pocket. On low power it works real well reading a menu in a dark returant and on high is great in a dark parking lot.

For camping, a $17 Mag-lite 2 D cell LED model works real well. Headlamps have their place too.

The Fenix E21 is very nice. Gave one to a buddy for xmas and he carries it with him every day. Been playing with it a lot and still on the first set of AAs.

Yea. I got him the E21, and he loves it. Still looking for my own EDC though. I've kinda settled on a single AA battery, since they seem to give more power, for a tiny difference in size. What's the best I can get for around $20? Also, I'm looking for a really small one.

Get a couple of iTP A3 EOS R5 upgraded flashlights. Put the pocket clip on backwards on one, and attach one to your key chain. The clipped one goes the bill of your ballcap. Some low discharge Eneloop batteries will help you top the batteries off. The lights can back each other up. The output on high is 96 lumens. The run time on low is 10hr. Cheap, lightweight, and waterproof. The iTP A2 runs on the AA battery, but the pocket clip is not reversible.
