I am looking at Buck 105's. I see they are available in 420, 5160 and s30v. I have used Buck's 420 and it is fine, but I have never used either of the other 2 from Buck. What do you all say. Any good or bad about any of them?

TAH TAH Ill post pics when it arrives. :)

Thanks for the replies. pjsjr and sportingspecialist

Being that it is my first 105 I went ahead and ordered the standard model 420hc.

You will be happy with the standard 420HC steel Buck 105 - it's a great quality and well designed outdoorsman's knife - the other steels just take it to a higher level but don't change the basic fitness for the job that the standard knife embodies. OH

Don, if you don't like going to Gun Shows then you did the best option and ordered one from the factory.
I see 105's in good condition at shows and they have a 440C blade. Offered for a good price. DM

Ive looked at the last couple gun shows and all I have seen are either over priced or tablefull of Chinese knives.

Great choice Don. Congrats. I have a 105 in 420hc and it works well for me. No rust, easy to sharpen. Bingo.

I've had this same debate in my head a few hundred times... 420hc is really exceptional for low cost stainless, as long as you don't require super-hard hrc levels... I keep wishing they'd boost the carbon to 0.7% or something like 0.75%. The 0.3% Vanadium is really quite a good part of it.
