Hello Everyone,

I'm looking to buy a new Emerson Knife, I currently own the CQC-7A, and the HD-7. I am considering the mini comander, commander, cqc 10, or the cqc 12 the knife I pick will be used for personal protection. I normally carry the cqc-7 and a variety of one of my other EDC. I have not been able to play with any of them any advice would be greatly appricated. Thank you Semper Fi

I own a Commander. It is by far the best folding knife I have ever picked up. The grip feels like it is ffit to my hand. The shape of the blade seems to be perfect for nost chores as wells as SD.

Id go for the 12 out of the ones you mention.

The 12 has the same frame lock set up as the HD7 but is bigger and with a better blade shape for SD (IMO).
It also works great as an impact weapon when closed. So do most folding knives but the 12 just feels that bit better for the task.

Id also take a look at the EKI Persian, if it had a frame lock it would be way better than the 12 for SD but even with the liner lock its still an excellent SD knife and really is worth considering.

I LOVE my Mini Commander i have the Satin plain edge and its an awesome knife cant say enough great things about it, just buy one or the middle sized one, ah hell just buy a commander any of em you wont be disappointed.

Size matters. The 12 is big, the Persian is big. A lot of places over 4" (or less) is illegal. If you don't have it with you...it's no good for SD.
I like the A-100.

I would go with the 12 because of the frame lock. All of them should serve the purpose you are looking for, but after extended use, the liners wear a lot faster. I have two EKI linerlocking knives that need to go back for this reason. I think the 12 is the way to go.

Thank you everyone for the advice it looks like the 12 wins. I will be getting one in a few weeks if it performs like my cqc 7 I know it should serve my well. Semper Fi

I use my 12 every day, its a great knife you will not be dissapointed

if i was gonna carry any production EKI it would be a '12, hands down/end of story.

a great knife, great handle, great blade shape and grind, thin, easy to carry, excellent lock, only things i would change are flaming the ti & a hinderer stabiliser, certainly the #1 production EKI.

i'd say 12 as well. perhaps stay away from the commanders, i've known people reporting lock failures on them for some reasons.

imho the commander isnt any more prone to lock probs than any other EKI, or any other liner lock for that matter.

not that i particularly like the commander, i dont lol, oh they are "ok" i just like some of the others a lot better.
