Hi everybody, this is my first post on this site (although I've been lurking for a while aha). I'm a student from Michigan and have been collecting knives for a couple years now after my dad got me a Victorinox Climber for Christmas one year. I would consider my collection relatively large, I probably have around 50-60 knives. Most of them are SAKs and Case slip joints. Recently I bought my first spyderco, a Delica 4 FFG. So I just thought I'd introduce myself first.

Anyways the knife I currently am using for hunting/camping is an old USAF survival knife, which is decent but I'm looking to get something new. I particularly like tanto blades, although I'm not completely sure of their advantages/disadvantages.

It'll mostly be used for medium duty cutting and maybe some chopping of small branches and whatnot. I'm looking to spend $100 or less.

ESEE 4...excellent all-arounder. Or, one of the Becker tweeners would also work well and cost a little less than the 4. I believe the BK-16 is the drop point version, which would make for a great hunting knife. Good luck with your search!

Welcome.

I'll throw out a knife that you don't hear too much about, and then let the Becker and ESEE fans have the thread back :D (excellent knives, BTW).

How 'bout a Grohmann Survival Knife?

Right around a hundred bucks, available in stainless or carbon steel, also looks to be available with a full flat grind.

Taking back my Becker / ESEE thread...

Becker BK17. It's my new hunting blade and after years of trying this and that (Benchmades, Kabar, Ontario, Buck) I've finally found a blade that I love.

the Bill Moran spyderco isnt much of a chopper but an AMAZING skinner on larger game and a great general chore knife, very comfortable in hand and not pretty, but elegant
